This document discloses a solution for modulating and demodulating signals transferred over a communication channel. According to an aspect, a method comprises: storing a database for mapping rules for mapping a block of N bits into M modulation symbol phase transitions, wherein a phase transition between consecutive modulation symbols is limited to less than or equal to ∓π/2, wherein M is smaller than N, and wherein M is the smallest number required for realizing 2N different phase-transition combinations; determining an initial phase; acquiring a block of N bits and modulating the block of N bits into M phase symbol transitions from the initial phase by using bit values of the block of N bits and the mapping rules, thus acquiring M modulation symbols; performing said determining, acquiring, and modulating for further blocks of N bits, thus acquiring a sequence of K modulation symbols; allocating the sequence of K modulation symbols to sub-carriers of a multi-carrier symbol and causing transmission of the multi-carrier symbol over a radio interface.

Modulation method for power-efficient transmissions

Disclosed is a method for compensating phase noise. A symbol comprising one or more data sub-symbols and one or more pilot sub-symbols is received (). A sequence of first phase noise estimates is obtained () based at least partly on the one or more pilot sub-symbols. A first filter is used to obtain () a first sequence of filtered phase noise estimates from at least a subset of the one or more data sub-symbols based at least partly on the sequence of first phase noise estimates. The first sequence of filtered phase noise estimates is stored (). Phase noise compensation is applied () to the one or more data sub-symbols based at least partly on the first sequence of filtered phase noise estimates.

Apparatus and method for compensating phase noise

According to an aspect, there is provided a waveform processing device. The waveform processing device includes circuitry for receiving an input signal including one or more subsequent orthogonal frequency division multiplexing, OFDM, symbol blocks each of which includes a cyclic prefix and an OFDM data block and corresponds to one or more subbands. Further, the waveform processing device includes circuitry for segmenting each OFDM symbol block of the input signal into a set of a pre-defined number of partially overlapping signal blocks of equal length so that non-overlapping samples of the pre-defined number of partially overlapping signal blocks in each set include, in combination, an OFDM data block. Moreover, the waveform processing device includes circuitry for filtering each signal block in each set and for combining the filtered signal blocks in each set using overlap-and-save processing to produce one or more filtered OFDM data blocks for each subband.

Discontinuous fast-convolution based filter processing

According to an aspect, there is provided a waveform processing device. Said waveform processing device comprises means for performing the following. Upon receiving one or more input signals, each of which corresponds to a different subband, the waveform processing device segments each of the one or more input signals to a subband-specific set of parallel signal blocks. Then, the waveform processing device filters each subband-specific set by applying at least a first time window function, a transform-plane window function and a second time window function in this order. Finally, the waveform processing device concatenates filtered signals to an output signal.

Multi-window fast convolution processing

A polar modulator arrangement includes a first and a second node to receive a signal having a first and a second component corresponding to an amplitude component and a phase component. A frequency separation device separates the first component into a low-frequency portion and a high-frequency portion depending on a cut-off frequency. The high-frequency portion is nonlinearly filtered and combined with the low-frequency portion to a first processed component. A combination element generates a polar modulated radio frequency signal as a function of the first processed component and the second component.

A method for use in an equalization of a channel by means of an equalizeris shown, wherein the channel uses a certain frequency band for a transfer of signals. In order to enable a channel equalization which requires a low complexity and which provides at the same time a good performance, the method determines a channel response for at least one frequency point within the frequency band used by the channel. The method further sets at least one adjustable coefficient (&#x3c6;, b, b, a, a, aof the equalizer such that an equalizer response compensates optimally the determined channel response at the at least one selected frequency point.
