The invention relates to the improvement of the fuel-properties of biomass in an integrated manner to facilitate storage, shipping and applicability thereof. In the process, biomass () is thermally treated within a combustion process to cause partial torrefaction of the organic matter present in biomass, thus yielding components inert to biological decomposition processes. Constituents () separated in gaseous form are utilized as fuel, while the thermally treated biomass () remaining in the solid form is utilized in a separate process.

Method for the thermal treatment of biomass in connection with a boiler plant

Disclosed herein is an apparatus and a method for producing a pyrolysis liquid, wherein the pyrolysis liquid is formed by means of pyrolysis from a raw material by forming, and a pyrolysis reactor, a gaseous pyrolysis product by pyrolysis and condensing it in a condenser into a pyrolysis liquid, and feeding circulation gas into the pyrolysis reactor. The circulation gas is conducted by a liquid ring compressor into the pyrolysis reactor and purified before being conducted into the pyrolysis reactor, and the pyrolysis liquid is used as the liquid layer in the liquid ring compressor.

Method and apparatus for producing a pyrolysis liquid

Method for treatment of spent liquor at a pulp mill, in which method at least a part of the spent liquor flow arriving from the evaporation plant is taken to a pyrolysis reactor, wherein it is pyrolysed at a temperature of 300-800&#xb0; C. in order to separate evaporable compounds from the coke remaining in a solid state. The pyrolysis products, which are gases or liquids, may be used as fuel or they may be processed further. The coke resulting from the pyrolysis is burnt in a soda recovery boiler or in a gasification reactor to regenerate cooking chemicals. The method is suitable for recovery of chemicals and energy both in sulphate and sulphite processes and also in cooking methods based on organic solvents.

Method for treatment of spent liquor

The present invention concerns an integration construction between a steam boiler provided with a combustion chamber and a steam turbine. The steam is conducted from the steam boiler () along a connector to the steam turbine () for rotating an electric generator (K) producing electricity. The supply water circulated via the steam boiler () is vaporized in a vaporizer () located in the steam boiler () and superheated in a superheater (). The supply water is conducted into the boiler through an economizer () acting as a heat exchanger, where heat is transferred from the flue gases of the boiler into the supply water. The economizer () is provided with at least two sections, comprising at least one first economizer section () and at least one second economizer section (). The supply water is conducted from the first economizer section () to a supply water preheater formed from a heat exchanger (), where thermal energy is transferred from bled steams of the steam turbine either directly or via a medium, advantageously water, into the supply water. The supply water preheated with bled steams of the steam turbine is conducted in the steam boiler () to the second economizer section () and further to the vaporizer () and the superheater () and therethrough, in the form of steam, to the steam turbine. In the integration construction, the temperature of the supply water is raised continuously as the supply water is flowing in the first economizer section () and from the first economizer section () to the supply water preheater () and threthrough, to the second economizer section (). The connector () leading to the supply water preheater () comprises a valve () for controlling the bled-steam.

Integration construction between a boiler and a steam turbine and method in preheating of the supply water for a steam turbine and in its control

The supply water preheated with bled steams of the steam turbine is conducted in the steam boiler ( ) further from the economizer ( ) to the vaporizer and the superheater and therethrough, in the form of steam, to the steam turbine. A connector ( ) leading to the economizer sections ( ) comprises a branch point (D ) to a by-pass connector ( ) of supply water, whereby the economizer section ( ) can be bypassed by at least part of the supply water flow. The invention also concerns a method in preheating of the supply water for the steam turbine and in its control.
