A heat moisture exchanger (HME) having a rotatable bypass channel includes a rotating cylinder having a first port and an outer cylinder having a second port attached to the rotating cylinder. A half-cylinder shaped foam insert is configured within the rotating cylinder to heat and moisturize air moving through the HME. The cylinder is configured to create a rotational bypass to air using an angled diverter moving between the first port and second port such that the rotating cylinder can be moved between a position for engaging the foam insert and a bypass position for bypassing the foam insert.

A manual resuscitator apparatus having a patient valve includes a housing having a first port for connection to ventilator bag, a second port for connection to a patient mask and a third port for an atmospheric vent. An air channel is configured integrally within the interior of the housing and a manometer is used for receiving air from the air channel. Either a linear or dial manometer is formed as a portion of the housing so the clinician can read both patient inhalation pressure from the first port and patient exhalation pressure from the second port.

Endovascular sheath with gradable stiffness device and method

The invention relates generally to systems and methods for securing adjacent vertebrae in a fixed spacial relationship. In one embodiment, the system includes at least one interbody repair implant, at least one implantable vertebral frame and at least one retention member. In this embodiment, the interbody repair implant is sized to fit in an intervertebral space. The at least one implantable vertebral frame is configured to span between the adjacent vertebrae. The frame is also configured to attach to each of the adjacent vertebra to postoperatively maintain a desired spatial relationship between the vertebrae. The frame has at least one internal aperture there-through for providing visual access to at least a portion of the interbody repair implant, both intra-operatively and post-operatively. Methods of fusing two or more adjacent vertebral bodies in a portion of a spinal column are also disclosed. One such method includes the steps of inserting an interbody repair implant into a intervertebral space, securing an implantable vertebral fixation frame to the adjacent vertebral bodies over the implant, installing a retention member to the frame to cover at least a portion of the aperture, and moving a locking portion of the retention member from an unlocked position to a locked position.

Implantable vertebral frame systems and related methods for spinal repair

Disclosed is an ostial stent positioner that has the form of a wire for most of its length and having a short cylinder with a longitudinal slit and expandable legs situated at the positioner's distal end. The slit cylinder with its attached wire acts as an introducer sheath to introduce a stent delivery system with a stent into the artery that is to be stented. A second aspect of the present invention is a method for accurately placing a stent at the ostium of an artery that would have an ostial stenosis. Examples of such arteries that have ostial stenoses are the right and left main coronary arteries, a saphenous vein graft as used in coronary bypass surgery and the renal arteries. Also disclosed are designs for the slit cylinder that provides a variable diameter so as to fit snugly within guiding catheters having different inside diameters.
