A method for cleaning within a washing zone comprising: placing at least one article for treatment in the washing zone, providing of at least partially deionized water into the washing zone, and optionally providing cleaning composition into the washing zone wherein the combination of said optional cleaning composition and partial deionized water have a specific conductance of less than about 200 &#x3bc;S/cm.

Modified starch encapsulated High Impact Accord (HIA) perfume particles are disclosed. The particles consist of a modified starch and perfume oil encapsulated by the starch and comprised of at least two HIA perfume ingredients which have a boiling point at 760 mm Hg, of 275&deg; C. of lower, a calculated ClogP of 2.0 or higher, and an odor detection threshold less than or equal to 50 parts per billion (ppb). The encapsulated perfume particles are particularly useful in laundry compositions.

Disclosed are the N,N'-(1-oxo-1,2-ethanediyl)-bisaspartates comprising the moiety ##STR1## methods for their preparation (including an unexpected preparation from glyoxal bisulfite and aspartic acid in concentrated aqueous alkaline media) and useful compositions containing the same; illustrative are general-purpose sequestrant compositions, chelating agent compositions for transition metals such as iron, manganese and copper, general-purpose laundry detergent compositions and detergent compositions comprising perborate bleach, a bleach activator and, as a bleach stabilizer/performance enhancer, the novel bisaspartates. These unique nonphosphorus compounds are useful at low levels and differ from traditional --N--C--C--N-- chelating agents such as ethylenediaminetetraacetates by the presence of one amino- and one amido- functional group which it is believed will provide additional advantages, such as improved biodegradation.
