The present invention relates generally to compositions useful in adsorption and reactive processes comprising an adsorbent powder, such as a zeolite, and a binder mixed to form an agglomerate having a porosity of 0.30&#x2266;&#x3b5;&#x2266;0.42 and a Npore diffusivity D&#x2267;3.5&#xd7;10m/s and wherein the mean particle diameter of the crystalline zeolite powder is 10 &#x3bc;m or less; the mean particle diameter of the binder is 0.10 dor less, and the binder concentration is 10% or less expressed on a dry weight basis.

A modular and compact adsorbent bed structure is disclosed for use in an adsorption-based gas separation plant. The conventional adsorbent bed in a gas separation plant is replaced with a plurality of modular adsorbent bed units connected to make the adsorbent bed structure. The modular design requires lower fabrication and maintenance costs; is easier to transport; and is easier to load with adsorbent material.

The present invention relates generally to radial flow vessels and processes to achieve even fluid flow distribution through the bed during purification, separation or reaction processes. The radial bed vessel is designed such that the ratio of the cross-sectional flow areas of the flow channels is in proportion to the ratio of the mass flow rates of the process gas with the proportionality constant between 0.7 and 1.4. In addition, the channels each have a cross-sectional flow areas such that the pressure change within each channel is less than or equal to 10% of the pressure drop across the bed of active material under the process operating conditions for the particular gas employed.

The present invention relates generally to zeolites having a silica/alumina ratio of less than or equal to 10 (Si/Al&#x2266;10) that are exchanged with Agand thermally treated in such a way to favor adsorption over alternative catalytic and chemically reactive functionalities. The adsorbents of the present invention and the method of producing such adsorbents maximize the working adsorption capacity through &#x3c0;-complexation. Silver-exchanged zeolites and methods of manufacture therefor

A radial flow reactor vessel is disclosed for use in gas purification, separation or reaction processes and most suitably used in prepurification processes. The reactor has internal baskets for confining a bed of active material. The baskets are rigidly supported at both the top and bottom ends of the reactor and have walls that are axially flexible and radially rigid. The vessel has multiple movable support columns designed to facilitate pre-stressing of the baskets to offset axial compressive loads induced from thermal cycling.

An improved gas separation PSA process, more particularly for oxygen production, utilizing adsorbents of Type X characterized by high frequency (i.e., cycle times of less than 4 s), bed length to square of mean particle diameter ratio within 200 to 600 mm, bed size factor of less than 50 lb/TPDO. The bed length, mean particle size, and cycle time are selected in a range such that axial dispersion becomes an important factor. In this way, low product recovery and high pressure drop (high power consumption) disadvantages often associated with the use of small particles are overcome.

High frequency PSA process for gas separation

A radial flow reactor is disclosed for use in gas purification, separation or reaction processes and most suitably used in prepurification processes. The reactor has two concentric internal baskets which are rigidly supported at both the top and bottom ends of the reactor. The reactor has a removable section in the inner basket to accommodate rotating arms to dense load one or more layers of active materials between the concentric baskets.

The present invention relates to the use of expensive and highly selective adsorbents and catalysts for trace contaminant gas removal to generate products of high and ultra-high purity. Mixing such highly selective materials with other less expensive, less selective materials results in the ability to achieve higher purity, higher capacity and/or lower cost without adding additional expensive selective material.

The present invention relates generally to adsorbents for use in pressure swing adsorption (PSA) prepurification processes. The invention more particularly relates to the design of adsorbent zones to be used in PSA prepurification processes that are expected to provide for extensions in PSA cycle time, thereby reducing blowdown loss and operating costs associated with the process. One particular embodiment of the present invention includes a first adsorption zone containing activated alumina and a second adsorption zone of an alumina-zeolite mixture or composite adsorbent in which the volume of the first zone does not exceed 50% of the total volume of the first and second zone.
