The invention provides methods for assessing one or more predetermined characteristics or properties of a microfluidic droplet within a microfluidic channel, and regulating one or more fluid flow rates within that channel to selectively alter the predetermined microdroplet characteristic or property using a feedback control.

Manipulation of microfluidic droplets

A medical treatment system includes a medical treatment device for monitoring and providing treatment to a patient and a companion device communicatively coupled to the medical treatment device. The medical treatment device may display case information including physiological information visually rendered from physiological sensor inputs in a first display format and transmit the case information and medical data to the companion device. The companion device may include a device interface having a display screen to accept user input instructions for the medical treatment device during a medical event. The companion device may process the case information and medical data received from the medical treatment device and also cause display, at the device interface, of multiple data display views in which each of the display views is selectable via a respective display view selection portion of the device interface.

Among other things, we describe a system that includes a first medical device for treating a patient at an emergency care scene, the first medical device including a processor and a memory configured to detect a request for a connection between the first medical device and a second medical device for treating the patient at the emergency care scene, the request for connection including an identifier of the second medical device, responsive to receiving the request for connection, enabling a wireless communication channel to be established between the first medical device and the second medical device based on the identifier of the second medical device and an identifier of the first medical device; and enabling transmission and/or exchange of patient data between the first medical device and the second medical device via the wireless communication channel. Such communications with more than two devices may also be possible.

Establishing secure communication at an emergency care scene

A medical device for providing therapy to a patient comprises at least one processor configured to receive a first patient biometric signature from at least one first sensor interface. The at least one processor is further configured to record the first patient biometric signature in a patient encounter record in at least one memory. The at least one processor is further configured to receive patient information from an external source, the patient information comprising a second patient biometric signature. The at least one processor is further configured to make a determination that the second patient biometric signature corresponds to the first patient biometric signature. The at least one processor is further configured to, in response to making the determination, merge the patient information and the patient encounter record into a merged record for a patient encounter.

Biometric identification in medical devices

The present disclosure describes systems, apparatus, and methods for collecting biometric data from a patient. In some cases, this biometric data can be collected during the course of an emergency encounter using a medical device. The medical device can also perform other functions, such as monitor patient vital signs, receive and record notes and textual information, communicate with other devices, and/or deliver a therapeutic treatment. The medical device can also be configured to record and/or maintain a patient record, and to embed the patient biometric data into the patient record for use in later confirming and/or determining an identity of the patient. Some embodiments can also collect biometric data relating to one or more caregivers of the patient, and to embed the caregiver biometric data into the patient record. This caregiver biometric data can be used to confirm and/or identify one or more caregivers in a patient record.
