The disclosure concerns at least one processor that can execute a polling group to poll for storage transactions associated with a first group of one or more particular queue identifiers. The disclosure concerns at least one processor is configured to: execute a second polling group on a second processor, wherein the second polling group is to poll for storage transactions for a second group of one or more particular queue identifiers that are different than the one or more particular queue identifiers of the first group, wherein the second group of one or more particular queue identifiers are associated with one or more queues that can be accessed using the second polling group and not the first polling group.

Storage transactions with predictable latency

Techniques are described herein that can be used to process inbound network protocol units. In some implementations, the techniques may process inbound DDP segments. In some implementations, a steering tag of an inbound network protocol unit may be used to access a context accessible to a network component. In some implementations, the context may include an array useful to determine whether all segments in a group have been received by the network component. In some implementations, the segments may be stored in a first buffer and transferred to a second buffer after all segments in a group have been received.

Techniques to process network protocol units

Input/Output (I/O) protocol operations such as iSCSI protocol operations may be selectively offloaded to an I/O protocol offload device, or retained by a host driver software. In one embodiment, iSCSI data transfer functions are offloaded to an offload device while session and connection establishing and maintenance operations are retained by host driver software. Other features are described and claimed.

Offloading data path functions

A topology of storage nodes coupled to a network to provide storage resources to clients coupled to the network is described. A common transport agent (CTA) comprises a common communication interface with each of the storage nodes. The common communication interface with each storage node may be independent of any particular input/output format to be used in storing data in or retrieving data from a storage medium associated with the storage node. The CTA may also comprise a communication interface with the network which is independent of any particular network protocol to transmit data over the network.

Network abstraction of input/output devices

A method is provided for processing a remote request by a local processor. The method includes the steps of receiving a remote request from a remote node over a network by a remote aware software driver interface and modifying the remote request with a software converter to emulate a local request which can be processed by the local processor. The method also includes the step of verifying that the remote request can be serviced by the local processor and executing the remote request by the local processor.
