Adaptive intelligent circulation control methods and systems are used to help increase the comfort and/or reduce energy usage and equipment wear. In one illustrative embodiment, the circulation and/or ventilation time is adjusted based on one or more environmental conditions inside or outside the building structure. In another illustrative embodiment, the circulation and/or ventilation time may be adjusted based on the current time of day, current time of year, and/or the current schedule period. In another illustrative embodiment, the circulation and/or ventilation time is randomized over time. The start time, end time, and/or length of a circulation and/or ventilation cycle may be randomly set.

An HVAC controller with a simplified and/or lower cost user interface. In one illustrative embodiment, the HVAC controller includes two switches, a movable member, and a plurality of detents. The detents are configured to cause the two switches to be switched in a sequence when the movable member is moved. In some cases, a controller is coupled to the two switches, and may change an HVAC control parameter based on the switch sequence.

Thermostat

A control unit such as a thermostat has a subbase which mounts on the surface holding the control unit and has electrical terminals for connecting to an operating unit. A controller is designed to mechanically attach and electrically interface to the subbase. The subbase has a memory unit which can record a number of different digital values. Each of these digital values corresponds to an operating unit requiring a different configuration of control algorithms. The controller receives the value recorded in the subbase memory unit and configures its control algorithms according to the value provided from the memory unit.
