A solvent reservoir filter for a liquid chromatograph system includes a first screen extending in a first plane, the first screen configured to filter solvent received through the first screen, a second screen extending in a second plane that is parallel to the first plane, the second screen configured to filter solvent received through the second screen, a main body extending between and connecting the first screen and the second screen, and a fluid outlet configured to expel solvent filtered by the first and second screens from the solvent reservoir filter. Methods of use and assembly of the solvent reservoir filter for a liquid chromatograph system are further disclosed.

Solvent reservoir filters, systems and methods

A filter for a chromatography system includes a filter body having an exterior wall, a cavity, an interior wall surrounding the cavity and a channel extending between the exterior and interior walls. The channel passes a flow of a liquid from the cavity. The filter body is formed of a sintered metal oxide material and has a pore size that is less than a particle size to be filtered liquid. In some embodiments the filter body is formed of zirconium oxide or aluminum oxide. The filters reduce or eliminate the types of reactions that occur between conventional filter bodies and chromatographic solvents and samples. The filters can be used at different locations in a chromatography system to remove particles that may be present in sources of chromatographic solvents or introduced into the chromatographic system flow by chromatographic components, such as pumps, valves and other chromatographic system components.

A fluidic coupling includes a compression screw having an axial bore, a threaded portion configured to engage a threaded bore of a coupling body, and a drive surface, a tube extending through the axial bore of the compression screw, the tube including a body and a fluidic channel extending through the body to a sealing end, the body including a pocket formed at the sealing end having a depth, a collet secured to an outer surface of the tube and having a first end configured to receive the drive surface of the compression screw, and a polymer seal having a channel to pass a fluid, the polymer seal including a flange portion and an insertion portion.

Low carryover high pressure fluidic fitting

A shear valve for use in a high performance liquid chromatography system. The shear valve includes a first valve member having a plurality of first fluid-conveying features, and a second valve member having one or more second fluid-conveying features. The second valve member is movable, relative to the first valve member, between a plurality of discrete positions such that, in each of the discrete positions, at least one of the one or more second fluid-conveying features overlaps with multiple ones of the first fluid conveying features to provide for fluid communication therebetween. At least one of the first and second valve members is at least partially coated with a protective coating that includes an adhesion interlayer and a diamond-like carbon (DLC) layer. The DLC layer is deposited on the adhesion interlayer via filtered cathodic vacuum arc (FCVA) deposition.

A rotary shear valve assembly for liquid chromatography applications comprises a rotor assembly having a rotor and a drive shaft with a head portion. The rotor has a substantially planar surface with one or more rotor grooves and a pair of holes. The head portion has two pins. The pins are disposed substantially diametrically opposite of each other on a line through a center of the head portion. Each pin mates with one of the holes in the rotor. The rotor assembly can further comprise means for urging the rotor surface against the stator surface such that each rotor groove aligns with and provides a fluidic channel between two of the stator openings.

Rotary shear valve with a two-pin drive shaft for liquid chromatography applications

Described is a fitting for coupling fluidic paths which facilitates secure and low leak rate fluid flow through a fluidic path junction such as a junction in a liquid chromatography system or other chemical analysis instrument. Fluid containing various mixtures of chemical samples can pass through the junction at high pressure with little or no trapped residue remaining in a volume at the connection. According to various embodiments, a face seal is achieved between two separate fluidic path features. In some embodiments, the sealing of the fluidic paths is aided by the use of a compliant polymer seal. The seal facilitates intimate contact between adjacent surfaces and significantly limits or prevents the entry of fluid under high pressure into an unswept volume. Thus the risk of carryover and its adverse effect on measurements is reduced or eliminated.

Exemplary embodiments are directed to a rotary selector valve that includes a valve body that includes a rotor and a stator. The stator includes a first port for flow of a first flow material and a second port for flow of a second flow material. The rotor includes a groove for flow of at least one of the first flow material and the second flow material. The rotor includes a vent groove disposed between the first port and the second port for venting at least a portion of at least one of the first flow material and the second flow material to an exterior of the valve body. Exemplary methods of operating a rotary selector valve and CO2-based chromatography flow systems including a rotary selector valve are also provided.

Rotary selector valve and associated systems and methods

Described are a method and a system for diluting a sample at a location of injection in a liquid chromatography system. The method includes loading a sample into a first fluid channel, separating a flow of a mobile phase into a first flow in the first fluid channel and a second flow in a second fluid channel, and combining the sample that is displaced from the first fluid channel and the mobile phase exiting the second fluid channel at the location of injection into the system flow to thereby generate a diluted sample in the system flow. The dilution ratio of the diluted sample is responsive to the flow rates of the first and second flows. Advantageously, the flow rates can be changed by changing the flow restriction of one of the fluid channels. Thus providing the proper flow restriction enables a user to obtain a desired dilution ratio.

Described are techniques for use with a sealing member forming a static seal or a dynamic seal at a surface thereof. The sealing member has at least the surface thereof formed from one of VESPEL&#xae; SCP 5000 material or VESPEL&#xae; SCP 50094 material.

A fluid switching valve includes a first valve element (e.g., a stator) that has a plurality of first fluid-conveying features (e.g., ports), and a second valve element (e.g., a rotor) that has one or more second fluid-conveying features (e.g., fluid conduits in the form of grooves). The second valve element is movable, relative to the first valve element, between a plurality of discrete positions such that, in each of the discrete positions, at least one of the one or more second fluid-conveying features overlaps with multiple ones of the first fluid conveying features to provide for fluid communication therebetween. At least one of the first valve element and the second valve element includes a recess. The recess serves to reduce wear between the first valve element and the second valve element. The recess is arranged such that it does not overlap with any of the first fluid-conveying features or any of the second fluid-conveying features when the rotor is in any of the discrete positions.

Exemplary embodiments are directed to rotary shear valves which include a stator, a rotor defining a cavity extending at least partially therethrough, and a bladder. The rotor is rotatably mounted relative to the stator to create at least one fluidic path therebetween. The bladder comprises a polymer disposed inside the cavity. Exemplary embodiments are also directed to methods of operating a rotary shear valve.
