A software debugging tool for assisting a programmer in locating errors in content or coding, etc. generated at the client, e.g., using scripts and/or dynamic HTML. Whereas current debugging tools, such as the &ldquo;View Source&rdquo; option of popular Web browsing software, permits the programmer to view only the hard-coded HTML coding as it is received from a Web server, the present invention permits the programmer to view the HTML coding and/or content generated at the client. This assists the programmer to locate errors in, or &ldquo;debug&rdquo;, software, since it is frequently easier to detect errors in the results of an executed script than it is to detect errors in the script itself.

Software debugging tool for displaying dynamically written software code

A technique, system, and computer program for using servlets to isolate the retrieval of data from the rendering of the data into a presentation format. Data retrieval logic is isolated to a data servlet, and presentation formatting is isolated to a rendering servlet. Servlet chaining is used to send the output of the data servlet to the rendering servlet. The data servlet formats its output data stream for transfer to a downstream servlet. This data stream may be formatted using a language such as the Extensible Markup Language (XML), according to a specific Document Type Definition (DTD). The rendering servlet parses this XML data stream, using a style sheet that may be written using the Extensible Style Language (XSL), and creates a HyperText Markup Language (HTML) data stream as output.

Servlet pairing for isolation of the retrieval and rendering of data

A computer implemented technique, system and method for providing enhanced search results for searches for documents on the Internet. In response to a search request form a user at a client computer, a search engine at a search server performs a search for documents at Internet sites matching the search criteria. A list of matching documents is provided to the client in the form of a hits list. For each document on the hits list, a link is provided to a server which will provide the document to the client in an enhanced format. Upon selection of such a link for a document, a message is sent to the server, and the server retrieves the document from its home server, and modifies the document to graphically highlight the matches to the search criteria found in the document and logically links the matches, so that selection of one match in the document by the user will automatically cause the client to display the portion of the document having the next sequential match. The server sends the modified document to the client for review by the user.

Technique for providing enhanced relevance information for documents

The methodology used converts non-HTML softcopy documents to HTML formatted documents based on examination of hypertext link entry points. To resolve these links, the invention interrogates the non-HTML formatted texts for hypertext links, verifies that the links are still valid (determines whether the to-be-linked-to topic, document or reference still exists) and constructs HTML link anchors. After all non-HTML links are resolved (i.e., converted to HTML, verified, and HTML anchors constructed), the entire topic or accessed portion of a requested document or topic text is formatted into HTML text and hypertext links. The most common entry point for beginning he conversion process is the table of contents. This usually provides numerous hypertext entry points to other topics contained in the work. Links can exists at any spot in the work. They are not limited to topic links only.
