A syringe for use with an injector includes a body having a rear end and a front end, a plunger movably disposed within the body, an attachment member associated with the body and adapted to releasably engage a syringe retaining mechanism of the injector regardless of the orientation of the syringe with respect to the injector, and an encoding device operable to provide syringe information to the injector.

Syringe assemblies and adapters for syringes that attach to and allow non-native syringes to be accepted by injectors having injector syringe interfaces adapted for particular types of syringes are described herein. Methods of forming the syringe assemblies, and kits including the syringe adapters which enable a non-native syringe to be operably attached to an injector are also described.

Front-loading syringe adapted to releasably engage a medical injector regardless of the orientation of the syringe with respect to the injector

A syringe interface includes a top opening into which a syringe can be loaded, a first retaining member positioned on one side of the opening and a second retaining member positioned on a second side of the opening. The first retaining member and the second retaining member abut a forward facing abutment surface of a syringe flange on the syringe generally symmetrically. The syringe interface further includes a cradle, at least one engagement member to abut a forward facing abutment surface of a syringe flange, and a carriage slidably disposed within the cradle. The carriage includes a connector to form a releasable connection with a plunger or plunger extension of the syringe and a drive member of the injector. The connector includes a plurality of flexing capture members that flex radially outward to connect to a flange on the rear of the plunger or plunger extension of the syringe when the carriage is moved forward within the syringe interface. The syringe interface may further include a connector on a rear portion thereof to connect to the injector.

Syringe interfaces and adapters for use with medical injectors

An injector for injecting fluid from a syringe mounted thereon includes a housing, a drive member at least partially disposed within the housing and operable to engage a plunger of the syringe, and a syringe retaining mechanism associated with the housing. The syringe retaining mechanism is adapted to releasably engage the syringe regardless of the orientation of the syringe with respect to the injector. Further, the retaining mechanism is preferably movable upon rotation of the syringe between a relaxed state, where the syringe is engaged by the retaining mechanism, and a tensioned state, where the syringe is released from the retaining mechanism.

The plunger systems for use in an injector-actuated syringe of the present invention include a dynamic wedge seal which improves the sealing engagement between the plunger cover and syringe barrel, and flexible capture members extending from the rear surface of the plunger which permit the engagement and disengagement of the plunger from the injector drive means at any plunger position within the syringe. Further, the plunger systems include a contrast saving tip which expells the injection liquid from the syringe tip.

Plunger systems

Embodiments of an injector, syringe, syringe interface, and piston/plunger assembly for an injector (of contrast medium, for example) are described. Preferably, the syringe is adapted to engage a syringe interface mechanism such that the syringe may be connected to an injector without regard to any particular orientation of the syringe to the injector or to the piston/plunger assembly.

Front-loading medical injector and syringes, syringe interfaces, syringe adapters and syringe plungers for use therewith

A medical syringe includes a cylindrical syringe body and a plunger fitted in the syringe body for injecting a liquid agent filled in the syringe body from the syringe body into the vascular system of the human body by advancing the plunger relative to the syringe body . The plunger comprising a plunger body and an elastic cover fitted over the plunger body from the front. The plunger body is provided with a backplate at a rear end thereof, the backplate having an annular groove forwardly opened and formed in a front surface outer peripheral portion thereof. The portion of the elastic cover to be rearwardly stretched by the advance of the plunger is allowed to ingress into the annular groove for escape.

Medical syringe

The present invention provides prefillable syringes and injectors for use therewith that expand and/or facilitate a variety of medical procedures involving the injection of a liquid medium. In several embodiments, the present syringes and injectors enable the use of current syringe materials at higher pressures than previously attainable or the use of other materials not previously usable with current high pressure-syringe and injector designs. In one embodiment, a syringe comprises an elongated cylindrical main body having a first pair and a second pair of mounting flanges encompassing collectively an arcuate length equal to at least approximately 180&deg; of the circumference of the rear portion of the cylindrical main body for releasably mounting the syringe in a desired position relative to the front wall of the injector housing. Injectors for use with such syringes comprise a housing having a front wall and a retainer on the front wall which cooperates with the first and second pairs of mounting flanges of the syringe to releasably mount the syringe on the injector.

Prefillable syringes and injectors for use therewith

The present invention provides a plunger for use in a syringe and a syringe comprising such a plunger. The plunger includes a pressure member extending around the circumference of a generally cylindrical body of the plunger. The pressure member is in substantially sealing contact with the plunger body. The pressure member is sufficiently flexible to be forced radially outwardly to exert force upon the inner wall of the syringe as a result of increased fluid pressure upon forward motion of the plunger. The pressure member thereby forms a substantially sealing engagement with the inner wall of the syringe. In one embodiment, the pressure member comprises a flange attached at a rearward portion of the flange to a body of the plunger. The flange extends forward and radially outward to form a circumferential channel between the flange and the body of the plunger. In another embodiment, the pressure member comprises a resilient O-ring seated in a seating formed around the circumference of the body of the plunger. The seating comprises a ramp portion having a forward radius that is smaller than a rearward radius thereof.

Syringes and plungers for use therein

This invention relates to a process for manufacturing prefilled syringes where at least one of the syringe components is manufactured in at least a class 100 environment. The process includes the steps of manufacturing syringe components, such as the barrel and plunger substrate, within at least a class 100 and MCB-3 environment; manufacturing syringe components, such as the plunger cover and tip seal in an environment less clean than a class 100 environment; decontaminating the plunger cover and tip seal; lubricating at least one of the barrel, plunger substrate, plunger cover and tip seal; assembling the barrel and tip seal to form a barrel/tip seal combination; assembling the plunger cover and plunger substrate to form a plunger; filling the barrel/tip seal combination with a predetermined amount of fluid; and final assembling of the prefilled syringe by inserting the plunger into the barrel/tip seal combination. When the syringe components are manufactured at different locations, each component is tripled-bagged to maintain the component substantially free from contaminants, and transported to an assembly site where the components are unpackaged and assembled into the barrel/tip seal combination and plunger. When filling and final assembly of the barrel/tip seal combination takes place at a location separate from its assembly site, the barrel/tip seal combination is tripled-bagged to maintain it substantially free from contaminants, and transported to a filling and final assembling site for filling and final assembling into a prefilled syringe.

Manufacture of prefilled syringes

The present invention provides a connection mechanism adapted to make a releasable connection between a syringe plunger and a drive member of an injector. The drive member is preferably movable in a generally reciprocal linear manner to control movement of the plunger within the syringe. The connection mechanism comprises at least one capture member attached to the plunger. The capture member forms a releasable connection with the drive member upon contact of the drive member during linear forward motion of the drive member when the capture member is rotated relative to the drive member to an engagement position. The capture member is further adapted to disconnect from the drive member upon rotation of the capture member relative to the drive member to a disengagement position.
