Methods, systems and computer program products are provided for selectively translating documents. For example, a computer system may be provided that selectively loads a specified portion of a document in a meta-markup language into system memory. Portions of the document that are not specified remain unloaded into the system memory. Once the specified portions of the document have been loaded into memory, the computer system translates the selectively loaded portion of the document from one format to another format. Translated portions of the document may then be provided, in some cases, to entities such as users, software applications or data stores. At least some portions of the document that were not specified or selected for loading into memory remain untranslated and unloaded into system memory. As such, unnecessary loading and translating of unspecified portions of the document is avoided.

Selectively translating specified document portions

A method of binding elements of a structured document to an observer structure includes obtaining the logical structure of a document. Nodes representing information contained in the document are mapped to an observer structure which can include both a user interface or a programming object. The user interface may be a graphical user interface including a display form of a grid-like structure to contain the structured document information. The data binding which maps the structured document information to the observer form may be directionally controllable such that any change made to the information at the observer may be reflected in the source structured document.

Method and system for mapping between structured subjects and observers

A system and method for parsing XML is provided. The method includes associating an input stream with a pull model parser, accepting requests to selectively parse out XML items from the input stream and retrieving metadata information associated with the parsed out XML items. The method further includes checking the pulled XML item to determine whether it conforms to XML syntax and/or semantic standards and validating the pulled XML item to determine whether it conforms to a selected DTD.

A query runtime architecture and an exemplary application programming interface suitable for the architecture are presented. The architecture inputs one or more XML queries and views and enables the queries to be translated wherein the queries and views may be run over multiple data sources of different data models. The architecture incorporates front-end compilers which convert input queries and views into an intermediate language representation which represents the meaning of the respective query or view. The architecture may then allow the back-end compiling of the intermediate language representation to target languages compatible with the data sources desired to be queried. The architecture also allows the execution of those target compilations to extract the data requested of the queries. The invention also discloses an example application programming interface for the query runtime system.
