A bus rooftop air conditioning system is made up of one or more self-contained modules having one or more evaporator sections and one or more condenser sections, with each extending transversely across the width of the bus, and with the evaporator sections fluidly communicating with both a common return air opening and a common supply air opening of the bus. The modules may be of a single unit configuration with a single condenser section and a single evaporator section or they may be of a double unit configuration having two condenser sections and two evaporator sections. The total capacity requirements are met by combining the use of single units and double unit configuration, with each of the evaporator sections communicating with a single return air opening and a single supply air opening in a bus.

Configuration for modular rooftop air conditioning system

A module is provided for attachment to the roof of a bus and includes all of necessary components for conditioning the return air from the passenger compartment and delivering conditioned air thereto. A module can be ganged in various relationships to collectively provide the total capacity required by the bus. Each module includes an evaporator section, a condenser section and a power section including a compressor and an inverter. The evaporator sections have a return air compartment that extends a substantial distance across the roof of the bus such that a single design can meet the needs of various return air duct installations of various types of buses. Provision is made for the selectively mixing of return air with fresh air, with the mixture then being passed by the evaporator blower through the evaporator coils and into the supply air ducts. The frames of the modules are attached to the roof of the bus by rails which are properly spaced to accommodate the modules frame and allow their selective longitudinal placement.

Rather than having a frame into which, or upon which, an air conditioning system is mounted, a bus rooftop air conditioning module has a unibody which is formed partially of structural members interconnected to the tube sheets of the evaporator and condenser coils to form a structural body which supports the components of the system. In this way the coil tube sheets combine with other structural members to form the supporting body.

Unibody modular bus air conditioner

An air conditioning module having all the necessary components for conditioning air, is so sized and arranged that, when placed in an internal compartment of a bus, has its respective openings register with an existing return air duct and a supply air duct on the bus. The compartments and modules are so arranged that they can be paired in back-to-back relationship, with one on each said of a longitudinal center line of the bus. Each of the modules has an intermediate partition dividing the module into an upper evaporator section and a lower condensing section. A mixer flap is placed in an intermediate position with respect to the partition such that its position may be selectively adjusted to thereby vary the amount of fresh air and return air that is passed through the condenser coil and evaporator coil, respectively.

Integrated air conditioning module for a bus

A self contained generator set of the type which includes a fuel tank made up of a base section and a pair of vertically extending tower sections. The motor generator assembly is mounted on the base section between the two vertically extending tower sections. A passageway is formed in each of the vertically extending fuel tank sections by communicating openings formed in opposite side walls of each of the fuel tank sections with a pipe section welded thereto. The passageways allow passage of the motor generator assembly's exhaust pipe and the generator's power cable therethrough.

A self contained engine driven electrical generator having two easily separable major components. The first is a support section which includes the fuel tank for the generator and structural support means interconnecting portions of the fuel tank. The support section also facilitates mounting the generator to a refrigerated container with which it is adapted to be used. The second section is a power generation section, which includes the engine, the electrical generator and the radiator for cooling the engine, all integrally assembled into an easily removable unit. Other major components of the generator, including a control box, battery, battery charger, air filter, fuel filter, and muffler form integral parts of the power generation section. All mechanical, fuel and electrical connections may be readily disconnected to facilitate removal of the power generation section from the support section.

A self contained motor generator set including an integral fuel tank, which defines a space which supports and partially contains the motor, generator and related components. The exhaust pipe of the motor passes through an opening in the fuel tank. The fuel tank and an outer cover cooperate with the radiator and fan of the motor cooling system to define a cooling air flow path. Ambient air for cooling the motor is drawn through openings in the front of the cover, through the radiator and into the space containing the components to pressurize the space. Air exits from the space through the exhaust pipe opening in the fuel tank and through outlet openings in the cover.

Cooling air flow system for a self contained motor generator set

A fuel fill pipe shelf for a generator set fuel tank is mounted in the upper end of a tower of the fuel tank. The fuel pipe shelf comprises an insert which is welded into an opening in the upper end of the fuel tank. The insertcupies a volume which otherwise would be part of the interior of the fuel tank. The fuel fill, vent and fuel gage are all supported on the fuel shelf. As a result, the fuel fill, fuel gage and vent are all within a protected recess in the fuel tank.
