An optical crystal can be mounted to a mounting block configured to receive the crystal. A base portion on the mounting block utilizes two walls forming a corner and a single biasing spring clip to secure the crystal. The spring clip applies forces in two different directions substantially orthogonal to the two walls. The spring clip is based off a symmetrical geometry which applies nearly the same force application in both directions. The spring also features bend regions that contact the crystal in such a way as to reduce the presence of point loads or stress risers. The length of contact along the crystal is maximized, allowing for proper force distribution and a sufficient surface are contact for static holding capabilities.

A universal fiber optic connector includes a housing and a fiber attachment element configured to attach an optical fiber in the housing. The attachment element positions the optical fiber such that an end face of the fiber is held within the housing. The fiber end face is positioned such that a beam of light emerging from the fiber end face has a defined wavefront located at a specified interface.

A pulsed laser system may include a Raman fiber that is configured to act as multiple wavelength Raman laser. The fiber is configured to receive a pulsed input beam from an input source and convert the input beam to an output beam having narrow band outputs at first and second frequencies vand v.

An optical crystal can be mounted to a mounting block configured to receive the crystal. A nonlinear optical crystal can be mounted to a mounting block configured to receive the crystal. The crystal can be mounted to the mounting block with a face of the crystal abutting a surface of the mounting block. An adhesive secures the crystal to the mounting block by adhering to the bottom and/or sidewall of the channel and to at least corresponding a portion of the bottom and/or side face of the crystal proximate an edge of the crystal.

Control of average wavelength-converted power and/or wavelength converted pulse energy is described. One or more seed pulses may be generated and amplified with an optical amplifier to produce one or more amplified pulses. The amplified pulses may be wavelength converted to produce one or more wavelength converted pulses characterized by an average wavelength-converted power or pulse energy. Wavelength-converted power or pulse energy may be controlled by adjusting wavelength conversion efficiency without substantially changing the amplified power or pulse energy. Average wavelength-converted power may be controlled over a time scale comparable to a pulse period of the amplified pulses without adjusting an average power of the amplified pulses over the time scale comparable to a pulse period of the amplified pulses. A wavelength-converted optical system, may comprise a seed source, an optical amplifier optically coupled to the seed source, a wavelength converter optically coupled to the optical amplifier; and a controller operably coupled to the seed source and/or optical amplifier and/or wavelength converter. The controller may include logic adapted to control an average wavelength-converted power of an output of the wavelength converter over a time scale comparable to a pulse period of amplified pulses from the optical amplifier without adjusting an average power of the amplified pulses over that time scale. Alternatively, the controller logic may be adapted to control wavelength-converted pulse energy by adjusting the wavelength conversion efficiency without substantially changing the pulse energy of the amplified pulses.

Methods and apparatus for reducing a thermal load on an optical head are described. Waste light is captured at one or more locations in the optical head and directed to a location that is thermally isolated from the one or more locations in the optical head using or more optical fibers.

Laser apparatus and methods involving multiple amplified outputs are disclosed. A laser apparatus may include a master oscillator, a beam splitter coupled to the master oscillator, and two or more output heads optically coupled to the beam splitter. The beam splitter divides a signal from the master oscillator into two or more sub-signals. Each output head receives one of the two or more sub-signals. Each output head includes coupling optics optically coupled to the beam splitter. An optical power amplifier is optically coupled between the beam splitter and the coupling optics. Optical outputs from the two or more output heads do not spatially overlap at a target. The master oscillator signal may be pulsed so that optical outputs of the output heads are pulsed and substantially synchronous with each other.

Methods and apparatus for aligning a lens with respect to an axis of beam propagation are disclosed. A position of the lens is adjusted with respect to the axis along one or more directions that lie substantially parallel to a surface of a bulkhead connector. The surface of the bulkhead connector is substantially not parallel to the axis of beam propagation. A position of the lens is adjusted along a direction substantially parallel to the axis of beam propagation. After adjustment, the position of the lens is fixed with respect to the surface. An example of a lens aligning apparatus includes a lens mount configured to receive the lens, a bulkhead connector having a surface, wherein the axis of beam propagation intersects a plane of the surface, means for fixing a position of the lens mount with respect to the surface; and means for fixing a position of the lens with respect to the lens mount.

Aligning a lens with respect to an axis of beam propagation

A precision positioning mount for UV-cured adhesives that provides adhesive junctions between modular assembly mounts and structural elements. Contact edges are placed on a first fixating area of an adhesive junction. The contact edges are pronounced edges of faces that slide along a second fixating area during the adjustment process. Thus, the assembly modules and structural elements are precisely referenced before, during and after their positioning and orientating. First and second fixating areas form a cavity that provides a volume for the adhesive. The mounts and structural elements are preferably made of sapphire for increased thermal conductivity. The elements of the assembly mounts are modular and interchangeable and provide various positioning modes.

Optical, opto-mechanical and electro-optical elements (OE) of a Laser resonance assembly (LRA) are positioned and fixated in close proximity on an assembly plate by clamping the OE in a vacuum chuck that holds the OE on a clamping portion on the very top of it. The OE is brought into the predetermined position while a lateral attaching surface of the OE is kept in a predetermined angle relative to the assembly plate. A side mount is placed between the mirror and the assembly plate after an UV-curing adhesive has been applied. The attaching surface s and the adhesive have a specific relation between areal extension, surface roughness, uncured viscosity and uncured cohesive force.
