A device and method are disclosed that measure the relative angular orientation between two surfaces. Two frames are mounted on the two surfaces to be measured. One frame has a collimated light source and a measuring scale. The other frame has a mirror. The collimated light is projected from the first frame and reflected off the mirror back to the scale on the first frame. The collimated light beam position on the scale is used to calculate the non-parallel angle between the two rolls. The method and measuring scale can be adapted to provide accurate measurement of very small, near parallel orientation angles. The two frames can be adapted to measure the angular orientation of important surfaces such as rolls or odd shapes that are otherwise difficult to measure.

A process is provided for making a composite work article suitable for fabricating rigid sheet metal can components. A steel sheet having first and second surfaces is pre-treated to enhance reception and retention of a multi-layer polymer coating on the pre-treated first surface. The multi-layer polymer coating is melt extruded on the pre-treated first surface and beyond opposite lateral edges of the work article to establish overhang portions, then solidified. The multi-layer polymeric coating has a tie polymeric layer contacting the pre-treated first surface, and a finish-surface polymeric layer. A method and apparatus are disclosed to measure the angular orientation of two surfaces. The device consists of two frames which are aligned to the surfaces. A continuous string is routed between the frames and put under tension. A position indicating instrument on one mounting frame monitors the string position. The frames are then flipped over or switched between surfaces. The string is tensioned a second time. The measured change in string position is used to determine the angular orientation.

Method and apparatus to accurately measure the angular orientation of two surfaces

A method is described that measures the angular orientation of a rotational axis to a reference line. The reference line is defined by the position of a string. The alignment device includes a collimated light source that is projected approximately perpendicular to a rotating axis. The distance between the projected collimated light beam and the reference line is observed at two or more points. The distances between the reference line and light beam are then used to compute the non-perpendicular alignment angle of the rotational axis relative to the reference line. Engineered composite coated flat-rolled steel strip is produced in continuous line operations, in which flat-rolled steel strip, free of surface iron oxide, having a metallic corrosion-protective coating, is polymer coated in continuous-line operations in which a plurality of adherent thin-film layers of polymeric material are deposited on a strip surface. In a dual-surface polymeric coating embodiment, each surface is separately-pretreated for surface adhesion, solidified, and polymeric overhang is removed. Finish processing re-melts the polymer coating and rapidly cools that coating through glass-transition temperature to establish amorphous characteristics in the polymeric coating materials. An anhydride-modified polypropylene, first contacts the strip, an intermediate layer can include about fifteen to twenty five percent, by weight, polybutylene with the balance polypropylene; an outer surface polymeric layer includes about five to ten percent, by weight, polybutylene with the balance polypropylene.
