A compact SCR device is provided for use with a diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) injection system having multiple injectors for providing diesel exhaust fluid to exhaust gas to reduce NOemissions. The DEF injectors are disposed in the close coupled SCR mixer. A first injector injects into a chamber of the mixer with sidewardly oriented impingement plates having openings. A second injector radially spaced and offset has a different angle from the first injector for injecting DEF into the SCR mixer. A swirl plate forces the exhaust gas in the flow path to turn and exit through an outlet opening. An inlet opening for the mixer is aligned transversely near the first injector and is offset from the outlet opening. Thus, upon entering the compact SCR mixer, the exhaust gas must change direction and passes by at least one injector and impingement plates having flaps and openings before exiting the mixer.

Multiple def injection concept for reducing risk of solid deposits formation in diesel aftertreatment systems

A diesel exhaust system includes multiple injectors for providing diesel exhaust fluid to an exhaust to reduce NOemissions. Two or more injectors provide DEF to the exhaust system of an engine. In one mode, the injectors alternately inject DEF fluid. In one embodiment, the system includes a NOsensor or a NOmodel to assist in determining an amount of DEF that must be provided. In a high DEF output operating mode, the DEF amount for one injector is output at a higher rate than the other injector such that deposits may form. After the injector at the higher rate of injection operates for a selected fraction of time, the other injector provides DEF fluid at the higher rate. Further, the system calculates an estimated developed liquid film mass for each injector output. When the estimated developed liquid film mass is not less than a parameter limit film mass, the system performs ATS regeneration.

Def injection strategy for multiple injection systems

An insert for engine intake gaseous fuel mixing device. A body defines a longitudinal axis, leading end, trailing end, and exterior surface profile from the leading to the trailing end. Supports extend radially from the body, each support extending parallel to the axis to define separate longitudinal intake passages. The exterior surface profile of the body includes a nose section in which diameter increases from a minimum value at the leading end to a maximum value at a downstream end of the nose section. The nose section is followed by a flat section and a curved tapering section in which the profile converges toward the axis at an increasing rate from the flat section in a direction of the axis toward the trailing end. The diameter at the trailing end is at least 15 percent less than a maximum diameter of the body.

Gaseous fuel, EGR and air mixing device and insert

A method for controlling dosing of a diesel exhaust fluid includes providing a diesel engine and an exhaust system. The exhaust system includes an exhaust aftertreatment device and is coupled to the diesel engine. An injection device is provided in the exhaust system for dosing the diesel exhaust fluid into the exhaust system according to a predetermined routine. A water condensation content of the exhaust aftertreatment device is determined. A dosing event, directed by the predetermined routine, is precluded so that the injection device is not operated to provide diesel exhaust fluid to the exhaust aftertreatment device when the water condensation content of the exhaust aftertreatment device is determined to be above a specified threshold value.

Diesel exhaust system and method for controlling exhaust fluid dosing

The invention provides a controller for determining the presence of faults within a fuel injection system of an engine system. The engine system comprises a first injector and at least one further injector, each injector comprising a needle control valve and a pressure control valve. The controller comprises: inputs for receiving data relating to a first engine system parameter; outputs for outputting a control function for controlling the injector valves of each of the injectors, and; a processor for controlling the control function output from the controller. The processor is arranged to output a control function such that the needle control valve of the first injector is kept closed in order to prevent injection from the first injector and to monitor the first engine system parameter as the needle control valve is kept closed, a change in the first engine system parameter indicating that the first injector is operating substantially within normal operating parameters and no or substantially no change in the first engine system parameter indicating that the first injector is faulty.
