Aspects of this disclosure relate transmitting and/or receiving reference symbols. A first reference symbol includes a symbol and a cyclically shifted portion of the symbol, where the cyclically shifted portion has cyclic shift length. A second reference symbol includes a cyclically shifted version of the first reference symbol that is cyclically shifted relative to the first reference symbol by the cyclic shift length. The first and second reference symbols are transmitted consecutively from at least one antenna.

Reference signal for wireless communication systems

Aspects of this disclosure relate receiving a reference symbol from at least one antenna. The reference symbol includes a portion of a first transmitted reference symbol and a portion of a second transmitted reference symbol. The first transmitted reference symbol includes a symbol and a cyclically shifted portion of the symbol having a cyclic shift length. The second transmitted reference symbol includes a cyclically shifted version of the first transmitted reference symbol that is cyclically shifted relative to the first transmitted reference symbol by the cyclic shift length. The reference symbol is processed. In certain embodiments, processing the reference symbol can account for (i) a frame offset between uplink symbols and downlink symbols and (ii) another timing offset between downlink transmission and uplink reception.

Reference signal for wireless communications

Techniques for using a narrow filter located before a power amplifier to reduce interference in an adjacent frequency band are disclosed. In an exemplary design, an apparatus (e.g., a wireless device) includes the narrow filter and the power amplifier. The narrow filter is for a first frequency band (e.g., Band) and has a first bandwidth that is more narrow than the first frequency band. The narrow filter receives and filters an input radio frequency (RF) signal and provides a filtered RF signal. The power amplifier receives and amplifies the filtered RF signal and provides an amplified RF signal. The apparatus may further include a full filter for the first frequency band and located after the power amplifier. The full filter receives and filters the amplified RF signal and provides an output RF signal when it is selected for use.

Wireless device with filters to support co-existence in adjacent frequency bands

An apparatus and method are disclosed for effectively and efficiently arbitrating concurrent usage between WLAN and Bluetooth access technologies for co-located wireless devices. A state level arbiter determines state and relevant parameters of a WLAN module and of a Bluetooth module of a wireless transceiver unit. The state level arbiter uses the state and relevant parameters to determine which access technology (WLAN or Bluetooth) or combination of the access technologies (WLAN or Bluetooth) will provide the best concurrent performance for wireless transmissions at a given time for specific Bluetooth states and WLAN states.

Method and apparatus for dynamic and dual antenna bluetooth (BT)/WLAN coexistence

Techniques for mitigating VCO pulling are described. In an aspect, VCO pulling may be mitigated by (i) injecting an oscillator signal, which is a version of a VCO signal from a VCO, into a transmitter and (ii) using coupling paths from the transmitter to the VCO to re-circulate the oscillator signal back to the VCO. In one design, an apparatus includes a VCO and a coupling circuit. The VCO generates a VCO signal at N times a desired output frequency. The coupling circuit receives an oscillator signal generated based on the VCO signal and injects the oscillator signal into a transmitter to mitigate pulling of the frequency of the VCO due to undesired coupling from the transmitter to the VCO. The apparatus may include a phase adjustment circuit that adjusts the phase of the oscillator signal and/or an amplitude adjustment circuit that adjusts the amplitude of the oscillator signal.

Method and apparatus for mitigating VCO pulling

A frequency synthesizer device with a fast off-to-lock time to enable intermittent operation and achieve power savings through automatic control of its On/Off sequence. A relatively fast off-to-lock time is achieved by controlling the sequence of how various components of the synthesizer are reactivated. The voltage controlled oscillator is reactivated, at first operating at its previous operating frequency prior to being deactivated. The phase frequency detector is inhibited while its input signals, a reference signal and a feedback signal, are activated. In a channel hopping communication scheme, the phase frequency detector coarsely tunes the synthesizer to its previous operating frequency, and then jumps to its new operating frequency. Another aspect of the invention provides improved channel locking by guaranteeing that the phase of the feedback signal in a phase lock loop initially lags the phase of the reference frequency signal at the phase frequency detector.

Method and apparatus for automatic fast locking power conserving synthesizer

The present invention is a method and apparatus for operating a dual-mode radio (DMR) in a wireless communication system. The present invention provides 'coexistence' or cooperation of Bluetooth&#x2122; and 802.11 devices operating in close proximity to each other within a DMR. The present inventive method and apparatus reduces reception errors and prevents saturation of the Bluetooth&#x2122; devices caused by 802.11 transmissions. The present inventive antenna switching method provides a means for coupling multiple antennas to Bluetooth&#x2122; and 802.11 transmit and receive devices. Saturation of the Bluetooth&#x2122; receive devices is prevented by electrically isolating the Bluetooth&#x2122; receive devices from antennas used by the 802.11 device during 802.11 transmissions. The antenna switching apparatus includes a plurality of switches capable of selectively coupling and decoupling first and second antennas to an 802.11 and a Bluetooth&#x2122; device.

Method and apparatus for operating a dual-mode radio in a wireless communication system

A novel method and apparatus for calibrating DC offsets in a direct conversion receiver. The present DC offset calibration method and apparatus comprises a direct conversion receiver equipped with a frequency shifter means and a DC offset measurement and correction technique. In accordance with the present invention, DC offsets are calibrated in direct conversion receivers through an inventive method including two steps: a DC offset measurement step and a DC offset correction step. In the DC offset measurement step the frequency of a local oscillation signal (typically generated by a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO)) is shifted by a selected frequency shift value during the inactive time intervals of the receiver. DC offsets are measured while the frequency of the down-conversion oscillation signal is shifted by the frequency shift value. Before the inactive time interval expires, the frequency of the down-conversion oscillator signal is shifted back to its original value. In the DC offset correction step of the present invention incoming signals are corrected using a correction means that removes the DC offset measured during the DC offset measurement step.

Method and apparatus for calibrating DC-offsets in a direct conversion receiver

An apparatus for receiving signals includes a low noise amplifier (LNA) configured to receive a radio frequency (RF) signal. An I/Q direct down converter is coupled to the LNA. The I/Q direct down converter is configured to split the RF signal into real and imaginary components and to down convert the real and imaginary components directly to baseband signals. A local oscillator (LO) is coupled to the I/Q direct down converter and is configured to drive the I/Q direct down converter. First and second filters are coupled to the I/Q direct down converter. The first and second filters are configured to filter the down converted real and imaginary components, respectively. First and second analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) are coupled to the first and second filters, respectively. The first and second ADCs are configured to convert the real and imaginary components into digital signals. The first and second ADCs have a dynamic range that is wide enough to convert the filtered, down converted real and imaginary components to digital signals without using variable gain on the filtered and down converted real and imaginary components. An apparatus for use in wireless communications includes a radio, a modem and a controller integrated onto a single integrated circuit (IC). The radio includes a receiver for receiving data and a transmitter for transmitting data. The modem is coupled to the radio and is configured to demodulate received data and modulate data for transmission. The controller is coupled to the modem and includes a digital interface for external communications through which received data and data for transmission is sent, a connection state machine configured to accept commands through the digital interface and to respond to the commands by initiating a sequence, and a receive/transmit state machine configured to perform state control of the radio in response to the initiated sequence.
