A SHC apparatus and process comprise a catalyst precursor reactor for providing a catalyst precursor stream in downstream communication with a source of molybdenum, a SHC feed line for providing a heavy hydrocarbon feed stream in downstream communication with a heater, and a SHC reactor in downstream communication with the SHC feed line and with the catalyst precursor reactor. A process for SHC, the process comprising preparing a catalyst precursor stream comprising molybdenum in a catalyst precursor reactor, mixing the catalyst precursor stream with a heavy hydrocarbon stream to provide a catalyst precursor concentrate stream, heating a hydrocracking hydrocarbon feed stream in a heater to provide a heated hydrocracking feed stream, mixing the catalyst precursor concentrate stream with the heated hydrocarbon stream to provide a SHC feed stream, and reacting the SHC feed stream in a SHC reactor.

Process and apparatus for introducing catalyst precursor into slurry hydrocracking reactor

A process using a dealkylated aromatic liquid improves a heavy hydrocarbon liquid used for supporting molybdenum carbonized catalyst. Dealkylated aromatic liquid can be derived from heavy hydrocarbon materials that have been subjected to cracking, such as fluid catalytic cracking or slurry hydrocracking. The heavy hydrocarbon liquid can comprise a portion of resid SHC feed and a portion of a gas oil stream from SHC effluent.

Process for making and using metal catalyst for slurry hydrocracking

Recycle of slurry hydrocracked product to a subsequent slurry hydrocracking reactor downstream of a lead slurry hydrocracking reactor produces reduced mesophase and provides better reactor stability as opposed to recycle to the lead slurry hydrocracking reactor. One exemplary embodiment can be a process for hydrocarbon conversion. The process can include providing a feed to a slurry hydrocracking zone, obtaining a hydrocarbon stream including one or more C16-C45 hydrocarbons from the at least one separator, providing another feed to a hydrocracking zone, and providing hydrogen from a three-stage compressor to the slurry hydrocracking zone and the hydrocracking zone. Moreover, the slurry hydrocracking zone may include a slurry hydrocracking reactor and at least one separator.

A process is disclosed for converting heavy hydrocarbon feed into lighter hydrocarbon products. The heavy hydrocarbon feed is slurried with a particulate solid material to form a heavy hydrocarbon slurry and hydrocracked in a slurry hydrocracking unit to produce vacuum gas oil (VGO) and pitch. A first vacuum column separates VGO from pitch, and a second vacuum column further separates VGO from pitch. As much as 15 wt-% of VGO can be recovered by the second vacuum column and recycled to the slurry hydrocracking unit. A pitch composition is obtained which can be made into particles and transported without sticking together.
