A composition includes a polycarbonate resin formed via an interfacial polymerization process and from 0.05 ppm to 50 ppm of a sulfonic acid. A molded article formed from the composition may exhibit a yellowness index that is less than that of a reference molded article formed from substantially similar polycarbonate composition comprising the polycarbonate resin but in the absence of the sulfonic acid. Methods for forming the molded article in accordance with the above are also described.

Interfacial polymerization process for polycarbonate in injection molding manufacturing with use of sulfonic acid as a stabilizer

Thermoplastic compositions include: from about 62 wt % to about 99 wt % poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) or copolymers thereof; and from about 1 wt % to about 38 wt % of a poly(carbonate-siloxane) copolymer having a siloxane content of from about 25 wt % to about 45 wt %. The compositions are scratch resistant. Scratch resistance may be determined as comprising a scratch depth of less than 20 micron (&#x3bc;m) as measured in accordance with the Erichsen scratch hardness test at a force of 4 Newton (N). Articles including the thermoplastic composition are also described.

Scratch-resistant PMMA and polycarbonate siloxane copolymer compositions

Disclosed herein are methods and compositions polycarbonate blend compositions with improved appearance characteristics and impact characteristics. The resulting compositions, comprising a polycarbonate polymer, a first polysiloxane-polycarbonate copolymer, a second polysiloxane-polycarbonate copolymer, and optionally a color composition, can be used in the manufacture of articles while still retaining advantageous mechanical properties, melt flow properties, and appearance characteristics such as the ability to achieve deep black and bright white colors. Polycarbonate-siloxane copolymer compositions with improved appearance properties

A composition that contains from 30 to 95 wt. %, based on the total weight of the composition, of a thermoplastic component and an effective amount of a flow-enhancing component. The effective amount of the flow-enhancing component reduces the viscosity of the composition by at least 10% compared to the viscosity of a composition comprising the thermoplastic component, but not an effective amount of the flow-enhancing component. The thermoplastic component is selected from the group consisting of polycarbonates, polyesters, and combinations thereof. The flow-enhancing component comprises b1) a component selected from the group consisting of metal oxides, metalloid oxides, metal alkoxides, metalloid alkoxides, and combinations thereof and b2) a mineral filler component. The weight ratio of component b1) to component b2) ranges from 1:25 to 25:1. A method for enhancing the flow of compositions comprising thermoplastic components is also disclosed.

Flow enhanced thermoplastic compositions and methods for enhancing the flow of thermoplastic compositions

Disclosed herein are compositions comprising a. from 35 to 80 vol % of a thermoplastic polymer; b. from 5 to 45 vol % of a thermally insulative filler with an intrinsic thermal conductivity less than or equal to 10 W/mK; and c. from 5 to 15 vol % of a thermally conductive filler with an intrinsic thermal conductivity greater than or equal to 50 W/mK, wherein the composition is characterized by: i. a thermal conductivity of at least 1.0 W/mK; ii. a thermal conductivity of at least 7 times the total filler volume fraction times the thermal conductivity of the pure thermoplastic polymer; and iii. a volume resistivity of at least 10Ohm&#xb7;cm. Also disclosed are articles and methods of use therefor.

Thermally conductive and electrically insulative polymer compositions containing a thermally insulative filler and uses thereof

Disclosed herein are compositions comprising a. from 35 to 80 vol % of a thermoplastic polymer; b. from 5 to 45 vol % of a low thermally conductive, electrically insulative filler with an intrinsic thermal conductivity of from 10 to 30 W/mK; c. from 5 to 15 vol % of a high thermally conductive, electrically insulative filler with an intrinsic thermal conductivity greater than or equal to 50 W/mK; and d. from 5 to 15 vol % of a high thermally conductive, electrically conductive filler with an intrinsic thermal conductivity greater than or equal to 50 W/mK, wherein the composition is characterized by: i. a thermal conductivity of at least 1.0 W/mK; and ii. a volume resistivity of at least 10Ohm.cm. Also disclosed are articles and methods of use therefor.

Thermally conductive and electrically insulative polymer compositions containing a low thermally conductive filler and uses thereof

Disclosed herein is a thermoplastic composition comprising, based on the total weight of the composition: (a) from 10 to 80 wt. % of a polybutylene terephthalate; (b) from 10 to 80 wt. % of a copolyestercarbonate component, comprising a first copolyestercarbonate having a number average molecular weight of 15,000 to less than 28,000 Daltons, and a second copolyestercarbonate having a number average molecular weight of more than 28,000 to 40,000 Daltons, wherein a weight ratio of the first polyestercarbonate to the second polyestercarbonate is 95:5 to 20:80; (c) from 3 to 30 wt. % of a particulate filler; (d) from 0.1 to 10 wt. % of a fluoropolymer; and (e) from 3 to 25 wt. % of a polymeric impact modifier. A method of making the composition and an article comprising the thermoplastic composition are also disclosed.

Polymer compositions, method of manufacture, and articles formed therefrom

A thermoplastic composition comprises, based on the total weight of the composition, (a) from 10 to 80 wt. % of a polybutylene terephthalate; (b) from 10 to 80 wt. % of a copolyestercarbonate having a number average molecular weight of more than 21,500 Daltons; (c) from 7 to 30 wt. % of a particulate filler; (d) from 0.1 to 10 wt. % of a fluoropolymer; and (e) from 3 to 25 wt. % of a polymeric impact modifier. The thermoplastic composition can be prepared by melt blending components, and the thermoplastic composition can be used for making automotive body panels or enclosures.
