A processing apparatus includes a carrier receiving region configured to receive a sample carrier with at least one channel that carries at least one sample. The apparatus further includes a thermal control device configured to thermal cycle the sample carrier when the sample carrier is installed in the carrier receiving region, thereby thermal cycling the sample carried therein. The apparatus further includes a thermal control system configured to control the temperature control device based on a predetermined set of target sample temperatures and a temperature map, which maps the predetermined set of target sample temperatures to a set of temperatures of the temperature control device. The set of temperatures of the temperature control device is different from the predetermined set of target sample temperatures, and the set of temperatures of the temperature control device thermal cycle the sample carrier with the temperatures of the predetermined set of target sample temperatures.

Thermal cycling

A sample carrier () includes a sample support region () that supports a sample to be processed by a sample carrier processing apparatus and storage and communications circuitry () that includes a wireless interface () that wirelessly communicates with a storage component reader of the sample processing apparatus when the sample carrier is loaded in the sample processing apparatus for processing. A sample carrier processing apparatus () includes a plurality of sample carrier receiving regions () respectively configured to receive individual sample carriers carrying samples to be processed by the sample carrier processing apparatus and a plurality of storage component readers (), one for each of the plurality of sample carrier receiving regions and respectively configured to wirelessly communicate, one to one, with the sample carrier in a corresponding one of the sample carrier receiving regions.

Sample carrier identification

A method for activating a physiologic sensor () of a peripheral device () of a monitoring apparatus () includes receiving, at the peripheral device (), a signal indicating a host device () authenticated the peripheral device (), receiving, at the peripheral device (), a host device authentication response signal, authenticating, at the peripheral device (), the host device () based on the host device authentication response signal, and activating the physiologic sensor () of the peripheral device () in response to authentication of both the host and peripheral devices ().
