Various embodiments include integrated approaches to detecting attempts to breach system-level or chip-level security using photo-generated currents induced by lasers or other radiation sources. Various embodiments integrate photo-detection circuits with a secure processor or other circuit in such a manner that the response to a security attack is fast enough to prevent loss of secure or private information are described. Various embodiments include circuits capable of providing a permanent record of photocurrent detection.

Detection of laser-based security attacks

Systems and methods for decoding compressed data are described herein. A memory may receive a data stream comprising a string of encoded symbols encoded using an arithmetic coding based coding technique. The string of encoded symbols represents a series of one or more decoded symbols. Each of the one or more decoded symbols comprises one of a most probable symbol and a least probable symbol. A processor may determine a number of consecutive most probable symbols in the series of one or more decoded symbols by performing a plurality of parallel mathematical comparisons based on one or more of the encoded symbols. The processor may further decode a group of symbols of the series of one or more decoded symbols based on the plurality of parallel mathematical comparisons. The group of symbols comprises the number of consecutive most probable symbols.

Parallel arithmetic coding techniques

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for controlling the states of a light modulator used in displays. A display apparatus includes pixel circuits coupled to the light modulators. Each pixel circuit can include an output node, a data capacitor, a charge transistor for charging the output node and a discharge transistor for selectively conducting a current between the output node and an update interconnect providing an update voltage. The display apparatus can include a controller for testing the pixel circuits to determine two or more update voltage levels, each update voltage level causing the discharge transistor to conduct current. The controller also can be configured to determine a logical high voltage level to be stored in the data capacitor based on the plurality of update voltage levels.

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for a display apparatus including dummy display elements that can be switched between being coupled to a test bus and a drive bus. When connected to the drive bus, the circuit components, including thin-film transistors, of the dummy display element experience exposure to typical operating signals. When connected to the test bus, the display apparatus can test the operating parameters of the dummy display element circuit components.

Systems and methods for improving frame rate in electromechanical display devices are disclosed. Rows or columns in a display device are given priorities and are selected for updating or for skipping during updates based on the priorities, the target frame rate, and the visual effect of skipping the particular line.

Altering frame rates in a MEMS display by selective line skipping

A method of driving electromechanical devices such as interferometric modulators includes applying a voltage along a common line to release the electromechanical devices along the common line, followed by applying an address voltage along the common line to actuate selected electromechanical devices along the common line based on voltages applied along segment lines. Hold voltages may be applied along common lines between applications of release and address voltages, and the segment voltages may be selected to be sufficiently small that the segment voltages will not affect the state of the electromechanical devices along other common lines not being written to.

Low voltage driver scheme for interferometric modulators

The present invention provides a method and apparatus for storing image data for successive frames in a frame buffer. Specifically, the method and apparatus allow for a display-sized frame buffer to be utilized where a host system provides image data in a format different from that which the display requires to be written to it while retaining the beneficial aspects of concurrent read and write operations from and to the frame buffer. Using this method a buffer controller receives image data from a host system in a first format (e.g. row-by-row) and writes it to the frame buffer in the first format. When the buffer is completely filled with the first frame, it is read out in a second format (e.g. column-by-column) by the buffer controller and provided to a display driver that writes the data to the display. As the first frame is read out in the second format, the buffer controller receives image data for a second frame from the host system in the first format, but rotates it before writing it to the frame buffer such that it is written to the frame buffer in the second format. This rotation allows the buffer controller to write to the frame buffer and the display driver to read from the frame buffer concurrently, despite the different image data format requirements of the host system and display. When the second frame is completely written to the buffer in the second format, the buffer controller then reads the buffer in the first format, and writes it to the display. At this point the process repeats. Thus, the benefits of concurrent read and write are preserved.

An apparatus and method for driving a display a display. Two switches for each common line are used to couple the common line to a respective first and second hold voltage supply lines. A third switch for each common line is used to couple the common line to a drive line. A waveform generator is used to generate the driving waveform on the drive line.
