A dual band horizontally polarized omnidirectional antenna is disclosed herein. The antenna comprises a dielectric, a top low band dipole arm, a narrow section of the arm, a capacitive extension of the arm, a top high band dipole arm, a narrow section of the high band arm, a first section of a transmission line, a second section of the transmission line, a feed pad, a coax center pin solder point, a bottom side array, a bottom side ground pad, and a hole for feed.

A system that incorporates the subject disclosure may include, for example, a method for electrically coupling a first lower frequency radiator of a first antenna to a first upper frequency radiator of a second antenna via a shared first port, electrically coupling a second lower frequency radiator of the first antenna to a second upper frequency radiator of the second antenna via a shared second port, suppressing, at least in part, with at least one first filter, first signals of the first lower frequency radiator from entering the first upper frequency radiator, second signals of the first upper frequency radiator from entering the first lower frequency radiator, or both, and suppressing, at least in part, with at least one second filter, third signals of the second lower frequency radiator from entering the second upper frequency radiator, fourth signals of the second upper frequency radiator from entering the second lower frequency radiator, or both. Multimode antenna structures and methods thereof

A system that incorporates the subject disclosure may include, for example, a circuit for receiving a request to initiate a first multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) communication session and a second MIMO communication session, and configuring a first antenna configuration and a second antenna configuration to enable the first MIMO communication session and the second MIMO communication session. The first MIMO communication session shares spectrum from the first antenna configuration and the second antenna configuration, and the second MIMO communication session utilizes spectrum from the second antenna configuration that differs from the shared spectrum. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Antenna structures and methods thereof that have disparate operating frequency ranges

An antenna system supports a common resonance mode and differential resonance mode, each with approximately equal radiation resistance and bandwidth at a given operating frequency band. The antenna system includes a resonant antenna section, a counterpoise, and two antenna ports. The resonant antenna section includes two spaced-apart poles and a distributed network therebetween. Each of the poles has a proximal end connected to the distributed network and an opposite distal end. The distal ends of the poles are separated from each other by a distance of &#x2153; to &#x2154; of the electrical wavelength at the given operating frequency. Each of the two antenna ports is defined by a pair of feed terminals with one feed terminal located on the counterpoise and the other feed terminal located on a different one of the poles of the resonant antenna section. The resonant antenna section, counterpoise, and ports are configured such that a signal within the given operating frequency band applied to one port is isolated from the other port.

High isolation antenna system

A system that incorporates the subject disclosure may include, for example, a circuit for initiating a first multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) communication session with a primary base station, and initiating a second MIMO communication session with a first secondary base station of a plurality of secondary base stations without terminating the first MIMO communication session with the primary base station. The primary base station can include a primary antenna system having a first communication range, while each of the plurality of secondary base stations can include a secondary antenna system having a second communication range that is a subset of the first communication range of the primary antenna system. The plurality of secondary base stations can correspond to a plurality of small cell sites distributed within the first communication range of the primary base station. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Method and apparatus for transitioning between cell sites

A method is provided introducing a phase offset between signals applied to antenna ports of an antenna having multiple antenna elements, such that a first signal applied to one of the antenna ports operatively coupled to one of the antenna elements has a different phase than a second signal applied to another one of antenna ports operatively coupled to another one of the antenna elements to obtain an antenna pattern control. A reduced power is used that is lower than the power used in a non-pattern control operation of the antenna such that a wireless link performance criteria is met with equipment at a far-field point using the reduced power compared to the non-pattern control operation, thereby reducing near field radiation.

Methods for reducing near-field radiation and specific absorption rate (SAR) values in communications devices

One or more embodiments are directed to a multimode antenna structure for transmitting and receiving electromagnetic signals in a communications device. The communications device includes circuitry for processing signals communicated to and from the antenna structure. The antenna structure is configured for optimal operation in a given frequency range. The antenna structure includes a plurality of antenna ports operatively coupled to the circuitry, and a plurality of antenna elements, each operatively coupled to a different one of the antenna ports. Each of the plurality of antenna elements is configured to have an electrical length selected to provide optimal operation within the given frequency range. The antenna structure also includes one or more connecting elements electrically connecting the antenna elements such that electrical currents on one antenna element flow to a connected neighboring antenna element and generally bypass the antenna port coupled to the neighboring antenna element. The electrical currents flowing through the one antenna element and the neighboring antenna element are generally equal in magnitude, such that an antenna mode excited by one antenna port is generally electrically isolated from a mode excited by another antenna port at a given desired signal frequency range without the use of a decoupling network connected to the antenna ports, and the antenna structure generates diverse antenna patterns.
