Provided is a system for correcting a sweat analyte measurement for temperature. The system comprises a sweat collector () for collecting sweat from skin (). The collected sweat is drawn from the sweat collector to an outlet () via a capillary (). The sweat is drawn through the capillary by capillary action and evaporation of the sweat from the outlet. The evaporation of the sweat from the outlet depends on the temperature. A flow sensor () measures a flow rate of the sweat being drawn through the capillary. An analyte sensor () obtains the sweat analyte measurement. The system further comprises a controller which is configured to determine a temperature from the measured flow rate. The sweat analyte measurement is then corrected using the determined temperature. Further provided is a method for correcting a temperature-dependent sweat analyte measurement.

System and method for correcting a sweat analyte measurement

An on-body sensing system () comprises a plurality of skin interface elements for coupling electrical signals to and from the body. The system is adapted to derive an indication of a position of at least one positionable interface unit () based on transmission of signals between the positionable unit and a set of spatially separated reference units (), the reference units being positioned at a set of known locations on the body. Transmitted signals are sensed at multiple pairs () of electrodes on each reference unit and signal characteristics derived for each pair, and based on this a direction of arrival of the signal determined. By collating all of the measured arrival angles, and by reference to a reference dataset containing information indicative of known signal arrival angles when signals are transmitted internally between the reference units themselves, an indication of position of the positionable unit is derived.

A hair cutting device for cutting hair on a body of a subject includes a light source for generating laser light at one or more specific wavelengths corresponding to wavelengths absorbed by one or more chromophores in hair; and a cutting element that has an optical waveguide that is coupled to the light source to receive laser light. An actuator device has a temperature sensing means and a controller adapted to apply a high frequency AC signal to stimulate internal self-heating to thereby maintain a temperature of an actuator member of the device at a certain fixed temperature, this temperature being elevated with respect to an initial temperature of the actuator member. This ensures that thermal drift may be mitigated or eliminated by compensating for any changes in environmental temperature through raising or lowering the level of the heating signal.

A monitoring system includes an implantable intra-vascular support device for positioning against a vessel wall and an implantable sensor-actuator mounted to the support device. The sensor-actuator is drivable between a non-deployed position in which it is against the support device and a deployed position in which it is displaced away from the support device. Sensor signals are generated when in the deployed position. This system is able to monitor flow away from the edge of a vessel by deploying the sensor-actuator towards the center of the vessel. When flow monitoring does not need to take place, it can be non-deployed so that it does not present an occlusion to the flow.

A triboelectric energy generator () comprises a first generating element () and a second generating element (). The first generating element comprises a first triboelectric material () and the second generating element comprises a second triboelectric material (). Movement of the second generation element relative to the first generation element results in an output voltage, as a consequence of the triboelectric effect. A stopper () is configured to restrict rotation of the second generating element, so that the second generating element may only rotate through a desired angle.

Power generation or conversion system

A field-driven electroactive polymer actuator is provided with a current sensor for sensing a current flowing to the actuator. A control circuit is used for driving the actuator which includes a voltage source. The driving of the actuator is controlled in dependence on the sensed current, thereby to provide a predetermined charge delivery for particular changes in actuation level of the actuator. This provides a combined voltage-based and current-based drive scheme for a voltage-driven EAP actuator, and it enables mechanical movements of the actuator to be more reliably repeated.

A flow control device comprises a laminate structure of an electroactive material layer and a non-actuatable layer. An array of orifices is formed in one of the layers wherein the orifices are open in one of the rest state and actuated state and the orifices are closed in the other of the rest state and actuated state.
