A lubricating oil composition comprising greater than 50 wt. % of a base oil of lubricating viscosity, and an additive composition comprising: an amount of one or more zinc dialkyl dithiophosphates (ZDDP compounds) and an amount of one or more viscosity modifiers, wherein an amount of phosphorus (P) in weight percent provided to the lubricating oil composition by the one or more ZDDP compounds divided by the amount of the one or more viscosity modifiers (VM) in weight percent based on a total weight of the lubricating oil composition is a P/VM quotient of more than about 0.0075. The lubricating oil composition can improve resistance to engine deposits and extend oil drain intervals of an internal combustion engine.

Lubricating oil compositions with resistance to engine deposit and varnish formation

A lubricating oil composition comprising greater than 50 wt. % of a base oil of lubricating viscosity, and either: a) an additive composition comprising: one or more zinc dialkyl dithiophosphates (ZDDP compounds) and one or more dispersants, wherein the amount of zinc (Zn) in weight percent provided to the lubricating oil composition by the one or more ZDDP compounds multiplied by the contribution of the total base number (TBN) of the one or more dispersants to the TBN of the lubricating oil composition is a multiplication factor Zn*TBNDisp of at least about 0.06; or b) an additive composition comprising: one or more zinc dialkyl dithiophosphates (ZDDP compounds) and one or more dispersants, wherein the amount of phosphorus (P) in weight percent provided to the lubricating oil composition by the one or more ZDDP compounds multiplied by the contribution of the total base number (TBN) of the one or more dispersants to the TBN of the lubricating oil composition is a multiplication factor P*TBNDisp of at least about 0.051.

Lubricating oil composition having resistance to engine deposits

A lubricating oil composition comprising greater than 50 wt. % of a base oil of lubricating viscosity; an amount of one or more ester(s) of a polyhydric alcohol; an amount of one or more boron-containing dispersant(s); wherein a ratio of the amount of the one or more ester(s) of a polyhydric alcohol in weight percent provided to the lubricating oil composition, to an amount of boron in weight percent provided by the one or more boron-containing dispersant(s), based on the total weight of the lubricating oil composition is less than 40. The present disclosure relates to methods for improving phosphorus retention and improving antiwear performance in an internal combustion engine of a hybrid vehicle, comprising lubricating the internal combustion engine of the hybrid vehicle with a lubricating oil composition comprising: greater than 50 wt. % of a base oil of lubricating viscosity; and an amount of one or more zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate compound(s) sufficient to provide: from about 100 ppmw phosphorus to about 1000 ppmw phosphorus, based on a total weight of the lubricating oil composition; and from about 10 ppmw zinc to about 1200 ppmw zinc, based on the total weight of the lubricating oil composition.

Lubricating compositions for a hybrid engine

A lubricating oil composition, method for reducing a boundary friction coefficient of a lubricant composition, and method for improving fuel economy. The lubricant composition includes a base oil, a) a metal-containing phosphorus antiwear compound in an amount sufficient to provide from about 100 to about 1000 ppm by weight phosphorus based on a total weight of the lubricant composition, and b) an oxygen-polymerized vegetable oil, different from the base oil. The base oil is present in the lubricant composition in an amount from about 50 wt. % to about 99 wt. % based on the total weight of the lubricant composition.

A lubricant additive, method for reducing a boundary friction coefficient of a lubricant composition, and method for improving fuel economy. The additive includes a synergistic mixture of a) a metal-containing phosphorus antiwear compound derived from at least one secondary alcohol in an amount sufficient to provide the lubricant composition with from about 200 to about 1000 ppm by weight phosphorus, and b) a polyol derived from a diol and a mono-ol having a diol to mono-ol molar ratio ranging from about 0.3:1 to about 2.0:1, wherein the diol contains from 6 to 36 carbon atoms and the mono-ol contains from 12 to 16 carbon atoms. The polyol is present in the lubricant additive in an amount sufficient to provide a synergistic reduction in the boundary friction coefficient of the lubricant composition in combination with component (a).

A slideway lubricating oil composition, additive concentrate, method of lubricating sliding parts. The lubricating oil includes a base oil; a metal-free friction modifier; and a metal-free, sulfur-free, phosphorus containing anti-wear/extreme pressure agent. The lubricating oil provides a lower coefficient of friction for non-metal sliding surfaces than for metal sliding surfaces.

Lubricant composition

A dispersant additive composition, a lubricant composition containing the dispersant additive, a transmission containing the dispersant additive, and a method of providing a versatile lubricating fluid. The dispersant includes a reaction product of a hydrocarbyl substituted carboxylic acid or anhydride and an amine. The reaction product has a nitrogen content up to 10,000 ppm by weight, and a boron plus phosphorus to nitrogen ((B+P)/N) weight ratio of from 0:1 to about 0.8:1. The dispersant additive composition is effective to provide an electrical conductivity to a lubricant composition containing the dispersant additive composition and a metal detergent of less than about 1700 pS/m.

Hybrid electric transmission fluid

Lubricated surfaces, lubricant compositions for lubricating a surface, and methods for increasing antiwear properties in lubricants. The lubricated surface is provided by a lubricant composition including a base oil of lubricating viscosity, at least one metal salt of phosphorothioic acid, and an amount of at least one hydrocarbon soluble titanium compound effective to provide an increase in antiwear properties of the lubricant composition. A ratio of titanium metal to phosphorus in the antiwear agent ranges from about 0.3:1 to about 1.5:1.

Additives and lubricant formulations having improved antiwear properties

Lubricated surfaces and lubricant compositions for lubricating a surface. The lubricated surface is provided by a lubricant composition including a base oil of lubricating viscosity, at least one metal salt of phosphorothioic acid, and an ashless, sulfur-free organophosphorus compound providing a metal to phosphorus weight ratio ranging from about 0.25:1 to about 1.0:1 by weight. The lubricant composition is substantially devoid of molybdenum.
