A surgical clip applier and methods for applying surgical clips to a vessel, duct, shunt, etc., during a surgical procedure are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a surgical clip applier is provided having a housing with a trigger movably coupled thereto and an elongate shaft extending therefrom with opposed jaws formed on a distal end thereof. The trigger is adapted to advance a clip to position the clip between the jaws, and to move the jaws from an open position to a closed position to crimp the clip positioned therebetween.

The present invention teaches a mechanical device that monitors the support wheels, or rollers, of a moving escalator stair step. The diameter of each support wheel is indirectly measured by determining the height of each support wheel axial above a given plane. Support wheels that have unacceptable diameter trip an activation mechanism that sends an electrical signal to stop the escalator's driving motor.

An elevator car door opening and closing apparatus is taught having a clutch assembly carried by each car door for coupling with a landing door locking and unlocking assembly whereby the car and landing doors open and close simultaneously. The clutch assembly includes a four bar mechanical expanding and collapsing parallelogram linkage which engages, unlocks, and opens the landing door. Mechanical linkage is also attached to the parallelogram linkage whereby the elevator car doors may only be forced opened a limited amount if the car is stalled between landing sites.
