The present invention is directed at a thermally sensitive retention mechanism for orthopedic cutting instruments. More specifically, the present invention incorporates structural engagement features into a rotational orthopedic cutting instrument that transfers torque from a driver to a cutting component and which upon heating result in disengagement of the cutting component from the driver portion.

Thermally sensitive retention mechanism for orthopedic cutting instruments

A medical device comprising a rotatable cutter head having a center longitudinal rotation axis; the rotatable cutter head comprising a mandrel and a plurality of elongated cutters disposed on the mandrel; each of the elongated cutters rotatable about a cutter rotation axis, respectively, wherein rotation of each of the elongated cutters about the cutter rotation axis changes a cutting diameter of the rotatable cutter head; each cutter rotation axis having a length which simultaneously extends both longitudinally along the center longitudinal rotation axis and circumferentially around the center longitudinal rotation axis; and each cutter rotation axis parallel with a first imaginary plane, respectively, which is at an angle with a second imaginary plane which is parallel to the center longitudinal axis, respectively.

Expandable reamer cutting head

A capacitor is described. A casing for the capacitor has a surrounding sidewall extending to opposed first and second open ends. An inwardly extending ledge of the sidewall is intermediate the first and second open ends. A partition plate is supported on the ledge. A first lid is secured to the first annular edge to close the first capacitor compartment bounded by the partition plate, the surrounding sidewall and the first lid, and a second lid is secured to the second annular edge to close the second capacitor compartment bounded by the opposite side of the partition plate, the surrounding sidewall and the second lid. At least one anode resides in each of the first and second capacitor compartments spaced from cathode active material supported on the casing walls facing the anodes. There is also a separator intermediate the anode and cathode. Insulative seals supported by the casing electrically isolate anode leads connected to the respective anodes from the casing serving as a terminal for the cathode. Finally, a working electrolyte is provided in the first and second capacitor compartments in contact with the anodes and cathode active material.

Capacitor having multiple anodes housed in a compartmented casing

A wet tantalum capacitor of either a single anode design or of multiple anode configurations having cathode active material supported on the casing and sealed in its own separator material is described. The separator 'covers' the cathode active material and is adhered directly to the casing. For a multiple anode design, an inner cathode foil positioned between opposed anode pellets is sealed in its own separator bag. Preferably, a polymeric restraining device prevents the anode from contacting the casing. The completed anode/cathode electrode assembly is sealed in the casing, which is filled with electrolyte thru a port. The fill port is hermetically sealed to complete the capacitor.
