Techniques and technologies for diagnosing speech recognition errors are described. In an example implementation, a system for diagnosing speech recognition errors may include an error detection module configured to determine that a speech recognition result is least partially erroneous, and a recognition error diagnostics module. The recognition error diagnostics module may be configured to (a) perform a first error analysis of the at least partially erroneous speech recognition result to provide a first error analysis result; (b) perform a second error analysis of the at least partially erroneous speech recognition result to provide a second error analysis result; and (c) determine at least one category of recognition error associated with the at least partially erroneous speech recognition result based on a combination of the first error analysis result and the second error analysis result.

A peripheral device is connectable to a computer having one of a first interface and a second interface. The first interface communicates with the peripheral device over a differential data connection having a first data conductor and a second data conductor. The second interface communicates with the peripheral device over a clock conductor and a single ended data connection which includes a data conductor. The peripheral device has first and second communication conductors. The peripheral device includes an interface detection component coupled to the first and second communication conductors and configured to detect which of the first and second interfaces the peripheral device is connected to.

Method and apparatus for detecting the type of interface to which a peripheral device is connected

A peripheral device, with first and second communication conductors, is connectable to a computer having one of a first interface and a second interface. The first interface communicates with the peripheral device over a differential data connection having a first data conductor and a second data conductor. The second interface communicates with the peripheral device over a clock conductor and a single ended data connection which includes a data conductor. The peripheral device includes an interface detection component coupled to the first and second communication conductors to detect which of the first and second interfaces the peripheral device is connected to.

A peripheral device, connected to a computer, has either a first or second interface. The first interface communicates over a differential data connection and the second interface communicates over a clock conductor and a single ended data connection. A thumbpad input device that enables a user to generate direction and speed by manipulating a round elastic pad. The underside of the pad is lined with a set of uniformly spaced contacts positioned in a circular pattern. Each contact is paired with a corresponding switch that is coupled to a circuit board. When a user presses down on the pad, one or more contacts close their respective switches. The pad contacts and switches are designed so that the number of closed switches varies with the magnitude of the force applied to the pad. The thumbpad input device has a micro controller that monitors the switches. It determines the most clockwise closed switch and the most counter-clockwise closed switch. Presumptively, these two closed switches define the two endpoints of an arc of all closed switches. These endpoints are then forwarded to a host processor. The host processor processes these endpoints to calculate the direction and speed of the symbol which correspond with the user's manipulation of the rubber pad.

A method of detecting quadrature signals in a computer input device allows a microprocessor in the input device to perform comparator functions, thus eliminating the need for external comparator circuitry. At least one light-emitting element in the input device emits light pulses, and these light pulses are selectively received by a light-detecting element. A notched encoder wheel separates the light-emitting element from the light-detecting element, allowing various amounts of light to be received by the light-detecting element depending on whether a notch separates the two elements. The microprocessor loads a sample of the output from the light-detecting element: a first sample taken at a selected time value and a second sample taken at twice the selected time value. The second sample is used for quadrature calculations used in determining cursor movement on a video display device. The first sample is retrieved by the microprocessor and determined if it is a digital '1' signal. If it is, then the selected time value is decremented by one sampling period.
