A compliance monitoring module for a breath-actuated inhaler comprising: a miniature pressure sensor, a sensor port of said sensor being pneumatically coupled to a flow channel through which a user can inhale; a processor configured to: receive a signal originating from a dosing mechanism of the inhaler indicating that medication has been released; receive data from a sensing element of the sensor; and based on said signal from said dosing mechanism and said data from said sensing element, make a determination that inhalation of a breath containing medication through said flow channel complies with one or more predetermined requirements for successful dosing; and a transmitter configured to, responsive to said determination, issue a dosing report.

A device and method for measuring a volume of liquid expelled from a syringe is provided. The device generally includes a syringe barrel, a plunger actuated with a plunger rod, and a sensor. The sensor may include two ports with one port being in fluid communication with a source of fluid external to the syringe barrel, while the second port is in fluid communication either with a proximal end portion of the syringe barrel or a hollow plunger rod having a first end closed by the plunger. The method may include expelling liquid from the syringe; detecting and recording differential pressure with the sensor over time; and calculating the volume of liquid expelled from the syringe from the recorded differential pressure over time.

The system may provide for a home based adherence and/or compliance monitoring system, in which a patient's interaction with a medical device may be monitored and an alert/indication provided.

In one embodiment, whether there is any medicament to be nebulized, a rate of nebulization, and/or other aspects of the nebulization of the medicament are monitored. Information related to the one or more monitored aspects of the nebulization may be provided to a subject. For example, by monitoring whether there is any medicament to be nebulized, whether the nebulization of the medicament is complete may be determined.
