A printer and method for printing a secure document are disclosed. For example, the printer includes a controller for receiving an indication that a print job contains the secure document, a lock on a printer door, wherein the lock is electrically coupled to the controller, wherein the lock is engaged by the controller after receiving the indication that the print job contains the secure document and the lock is disengaged when the print job is completed successfully and a user interface in communication with the controller for receiving a security code to disengage the lock when print job is interrupted due to an error.

A system and method are provided for implementing an asynchronous buffering module and/or scheme employing an integrated registration function, particularly for in-line printing in an image forming system. Multiple simplex marking engines are arranged in series and provided with a mechanism that includes an asynchronous buffering module with the capacity to modify the timing of individual sheets of image receiving media passing between the in-line marking engines. The buffering module is augmented with an integrated registration function for the in-line duplex printing. The combined mechanism provides a capacity between the multiple marking engines to effect timing synchronization and re-registration for the sheets exiting the first serial marking engine allowing them to be properly timed and registered for feeding to the second serial marking engine. An asynchronous nature of the combination of media marking engines is synchronized in the feed of the sheets between the media marking engines.

Systems and methods for implementing an asynchronous buffering module with an integrated registration function for inline printing an image forming system

A media handling transport includes first and second device halves. Each of the device halves includes first, second and third body members, with the first end portion of the second body member disposed adjacent the first end portion of the first body member, the first end portion of the third body member disposed adjacent the second end portion of the first body member, and the second end portion of the third body member disposed adjacent the second end portion of the second body member. An inner body member defines a first media transport passageway with the second body member define, a second media transport passageway with the third body member, and a third media transport passageway with the first body member. The second end portions of the second and third body members define an abutting end of the device half, with the abutting end of the first device half disposed adjacent the abutting end of the second device half in an installed transport.

Apparatuses useful in printing, printing apparatuses and methods of fixing marking material on media are provided. An exemplary embodiment of the apparatuses useful in printing includes a marking device; a first transport device which transports a first medium and a successive second medium to the marking device in a process direction with the first medium and second medium separated from each other by a first inter-document zone in the process direction; a fixing device including a first member including a first outer surface and a second member including a second outer surface forming a nip with the first outer surface; a second transport device which transports the first medium and second medium from the marking device to the nip; and a controller configured to control a speed of the marking device, the first member and the second transport device to reduce the first inter-document zone between the first medium and second medium to a second inter-document zone in the process direction between the marking device and the nip.

Apparatuses useful in printing, printing apparatuses and methods of fixing marking material on media

A printing system includes a housing and a marking engine within the housing for marking print media conveyed on a paper path through the housing. A viewing system, such as a window in the housing, is positioned so as to enable an observer outside the housing to view a print job in progress.

Disclosed is a bidirectional media sheet transport apparatus. The transport apparatus includes one or more belt driven bidirectional nip assemblies aligned to transport one or more media sheets along a bidirectional path. In addition, disclosed are belt tensioning devices to apply multiple tension forces to a belt operatively engaging the one or more bidirectional nip assemblies. Also disclosed is a bidirectional baffle apparatus to enable bidirectional travel of a media sheet from one module to another module.

A server component includes a network interface and an analysis component. The server component is at least partially implemented by an operative set of processor executable instructions configured for execution by at least one processor. The network interface is in operative communication with a network and is configured to communicate with at least two nodes of different node types. The network interface is also in operative communication with a local RFID tag attached to a corresponding module. A node of the at least two nodes is a printer-based node associated with a printing machine. The analysis component is configured to utilize the network interface to communicate with the node associated with the printing machine such that the analysis component is in operative communication with the local RFID tag attached to the corresponding module. The node associated with the printing machine interrogates the local RFID tag to retrieve information relating to the corresponding module and communicates the information to the server component.

Server component for monitoring modules of printing machines utilizing RFID tags

A module monitoring system and related method includes a plurality of nodes and a server component. Each node of the plurality of nodes is in operative communication with a network and with at least one RFID attached to a module. Each node of the plurality of nodes is a node type and at least two nodes of the plurality of nodes are different node types. A node of the at least two nodes is a printer-based node and is associated with a printing machine. The node associated with the printing machine is also in operative communication with a local RFID tag attached to a corresponding module. The server component includes a network interface and an analysis component. The network interface is in operative communication with the network and communicates with the at least two nodes utilizing the network. The analysis component utilizes the network interface to communicate with the node such that the analysis component is additionally in operative communication with the local RFID tag attached to the corresponding module. The node associated with the printing machine operatively interrogates the local RFID tag to retrieve information relating to the corresponding module and communicates the information to the server component.

System and method of monitoring modules of printing machines utilizing RFID tags

Liquid delivery systems, fuser assemblies, printing apparatuses and methods of delivering release agents to fusing imaging surfaces are disclosed. An embodiment of the liquid supply systems for delivering a liquid to a fusing imaging surface of a fusing member includes a first roll having a first outer surface adapted to contact a liquid contained in a sump; a first shim adapted to contact the first outer surface and the liquid in the sump; a second roll having a second outer surface adapted to contact the liquid in the sump, the first and second rolls contacting each other at an interface; and a second shim adapted to contact the second outer surface and the liquid in the sump. At least one of the first outer surface and the second outer surface is comprised of a compressible material which is compressed along the interface. The first and second shims define a liquid passage through which the liquid is metered from the sump to the interface, and the first and second rolls are rotatable to meter the liquid through the interface to the fusing imaging surface of the fusing member.

Liquid delivery systems, fuser assemblies, printing apparatuses and methods of delivering release agents to fusing imaging surfaces

A fuser assembly comprises a fusing member and a pressure member, where the fusing member and the pressure member cooperatively rotate to form a fuser nip. The fuser is arranged so that the pressure member speed is reduced with respect to the fusing member speed, thus forming a reduced pressure member speed. The reduced pressure member speed stretches or retards the surface of the fusing member elastomer enough to assist in stripping or peeling the media sheet lead edge from the fusing member. As a result of initially stripping or peeling the media sheet lead edge, the remaining media body likewise is assisted to be stripped or peeled from the fusing member. In various embodiments the media stripping or peeling process is assisted by means of one or more air knives, one or more stripping fingers, or any combination of these items.

Fuser arranged for reduced pressure member speed, and an image forming device including the same

An image compilation production system and method, for use in a setting attended by multiple visitors. The system comprises multiple identification devices, multiple digital image capturing devices, and a reader device associated with each of the image capturing devices. Each identification device includes an electronic data storage device having identification data stored therein. One of the identification devices is carried by at least one of the visitors to the setting. The reader device activates the digital image capturing device to capture the image of the visitor when the identification data stored in the electronic data storage device of the identification device is carried within the detection range of the associated reader device by the visitor.

Cleaning systems for cleaning fuser devices in electrostatographic printing apparatuses and methods of cleaning fuser devices using such cleaning systems are provided. The disclosed cleaning systems include flexible substrates having a surface coated with a high surface-energy film and optionally having an abrasive surface opposite the coated surface. The high surface-energy film contacts a surface of a fuser member and removes contaminants. Optionally, the fuser surface may be pre-cleaned by the abrasive surface prior to contacting the high surface-energy film.

An image forming apparatus defined by two flat, linear surface plates and two belts independently routed outside one of the two flat linear surface plates using a combination of rollers providing a stiff, linear, no-friction plane scalable in dimension to form the linear nip zone. The linear nip zone is further defined having and entrance defined by entrance rollers operating within each of the two belts and an exit defined by exit rollers operating within each of the two belts. Force loading devices associated with each of the two flat linear surface plates provide a load required for the two flat linear surface plates to enable the linear nip zone to achieve proper image performance. At least one heater roller can be associated with each of the two belts for providing heat directly to a surface the two belts that will directly contact paper processed through the linear nip zone.

A floor standing and environmentally isolated external fusing module dockable with a first external module surround frame surrounding a xerographic toner image marking module is provided and includes (a) a fusing apparatus for receiving from the xerographic toner image marking module a copy sheet carrying an un-fused toner image thereon to heat and permanently fix the toner image onto the copy sheet; (b) a second external module surround frame for surrounding and isolating fusing volatiles from the fusing apparatus to prevent the fusing volatiles from contaminating an imageable surface and wire charging devices in the xerographic toner image marking module, the second external module surround frame having a second set of sheet-path interface and module-to-module docking devices for docking with the xerographic toner image marking module; and (c) floor standing casters mounted to a bottom of the second external module surround frame for movably supporting the floor standing and environmentally isolated external fusing module.
