A processing system () implements a translator () and a compiler () for compiling a machine readable language. When a source file () is provided, the system performs a line-by-line compare to determine if the file contains extended grammar constructs (e.g., X.68x, where x is greater than or equal to 1) of the language, such as an ASN.1 standard language. One dependability system includes a hierarchical arrangement of two or more nodes each having a fault analyzer object programmed to respond to status information relating to an associated system of one or more objects based upon a respective set of policies designed to improve object availability. The dependability system may be implemented in a telephony system. The telephony system may include a packet switched network, a gatekeeper coupled to the packet switched network, and a server coupled to the packet switched network and configured to process telephone calls over the packet switched network. A dependability method that is implemented in a distributed packet switched network also is described. In accordance with this method, status information relating to one or more component objects of a node in a hierarchical arrangement of two or more nodes is received at a lower-level node. In response to the received status information a component object control instruction for controlling the operational state of one of the component objects is issued at the lower-level node based upon a respective set of policies designed to improve object availability. A status report is issued from the lower-level node to a higher-level node in the hierarchical arrangement of nodes.

A method and system for automated silent call monitoring in an automatic call distributor (ACD) environment includes configuring a set of call performance profiles which include voice data patterns which are descriptive of voice data transmissions during an ACD call and which are associated with substandard agent performance. Each voice data pattern has a corresponding threshold which represents the maximum number of detections tolerated in an ACD call prior to execution of a notification routine. A digital signal processor (DSP) monitors a first call between an agent terminal and a customer terminal for the voice data patterns and stores detection data in memory upon detecting of one of the voice data patterns. A central processor unit (CPU) compares the number of detections of the voice patterns within predetermined time intervals to the threshold numbers of detections represented in the thresholds to determine if any threshold has been exceeded. If no thresholds have been exceeded, the DSP continues to monitor for the voice data patterns. If a threshold has been exceeded, the CPU executes the notification routine wherein a supervisor terminal and the agent terminal are notified of the exceeded threshold. A supervisor notification can include an option to establish a direct monitoring session for the first call and an option to transfer the first call to the supervisor terminal. An agent notification preferably includes call performance analysis which provides suggestions for improving call performance which are responsive to the detected voice data patterns.

Apparatus and method for automated voice analysis in ACD silent call monitoring

A system and method for silent Automatic Call Distributor (ACD) call monitoring in a telephony-over-LAN environment includes an ACD agent terminal for handling incoming calls from customers. A first call between the agent terminal and a customer terminal includes agent voice data and customer voice data. After the agent terminal has set up the first call with the customer terminal, the agent terminal receives a monitoring call setup request from a supervisor terminal. In response to the call setup request, the agent terminal cooperates with the supervisor terminal to establish a monitoring call over which the agent terminal transmits the agent voice data and the customer voice data to the supervisor terminal. The agent terminal monitors the first call for simultaneously transmitted agent voice data and customer voice data. In order to minimize transmission delay in the monitoring call, the agent and customer voice data which was simultaneously transmitted in the first call is reformatted for transmission in the monitoring call. In a preferred embodiment, agent voice data bytes are multiplexed with customer voice data bytes in a consecutively sequential manner and the resulting combination voice data packets are transmitted over the monitoring call. In a second embodiment, the framing of voice data packets in the customer and agent voice data streams is shifted prior to alternately transmitting customer and agent voice data packets over the monitoring call.

Silent monitoring in a voice-over-data-network environment

A method and system for enabling dynamic location of a voice and video mixing site in a telephony-over-LAN (TOL) automatic call distributor (ACD) system includes establishing a first call between an ACD agent terminal and a customer terminal, wherein the first call includes first voice data transmitted from the agent terminal and second voice data transmitted from the customer terminal. Upon receiving a monitoring session request from an ACD supervisor terminal, agent processor monitoring circuitry determines whether sufficient agent processor resources are available to mix voice, and if applicable, video data samples. If sufficient agent processor resources are available, an agent terminal call control cooperates with a supervisor terminal call control to establish a first monitoring call. The agent call control monitors the first call for simultaneously transmitted agent and customer voice and video data. A voice/video mixer integrates the simultaneously transmitted agent and customer voice and video data which are transmitted over the first monitoring call to the supervisor terminal. If sufficient agent processor resources are not available, the agent call control determines if sufficient network bandwidth is available to establish second and third monitoring calls. If sufficient bandwidth is available, the agent call control establishes the second and third monitoring calls over which the first and second voice and video data are transmitted. The monitoring of the agent processor resource level is continuous throughout a monitoring session. If sufficient resources are available in the agent terminal, the voice data mixing is performed at the agent terminal.

System and method for dynamically altering digital voice mixing location in ACD silent monitoring

An apparatus and method for selectively compressing information to be transmitted over a communications network includes an analog line monitor connected to an analog telephone and an analog data communications device. The analog line monitor is configured for detection of carrier tone signals associated with data transmissions. An analog-to-digital/digital-to-analog (AD/DA) converter is connected to the analog line monitor to convert the information contained in transmissions from the analog telephone and the analog data communications device from an analog format to a digital format. Optionally, the AD/DA circuitry is configured for demodulating data prior to transmission over the network. Compression circuitry is responsive to detection of a carrier tone signal by the analog line monitor, such that detection of a carrier tone signal suppresses compression of data transmitted by the data communications device. A transmitting device is connected to the AD/DA converter and to the compression circuitry to transmit information generated by the analog telephone and the analog data communications device to a remotely located communications device. A preferred embodiment includes a digital line monitor connected to a digital communications device. Decompression circuitry is connected to the digital line monitor to decompress information transmitted by the digital communications device. A signaling information extractor is connected to the decompression circuitry to extract signaling information from the decompressed digital information. The transmitting device transmits the information received by the digital line monitor.
