A method identifies relevant data sources in a data visualization user interface. The process constructs an interaction matrix X whose rows correspond to users and whose columns correspond to data sources. Each entry measures the extent to which a user interacts with a data source according to user interactions with data visualizations generated from the data source. The method factors X into a product of a user matrix U times a source matrix Susing iterative refinement to minimize the least squares difference between X and U&#xb7;S. A user connects to a data server. The method computes affinity scores between the user and data sources. Each affinity score is a dot product of a row of U (a user) and a row of S (a data source). The method selects some data sources corresponding to high computed affinity scores and returns the selected data sources to the user.

Identifying relevant data sources for a data visualization application

The present disclosure involves systems, software, and computer-implemented methods for preventing overplotting for data visualization. An example method includes identifying a request to generate a chart including a plotting area indicating a set of data points to be displayed in the plotting area of the generated chart; determining that the requested chart will be unsuitable for display; dividing the plotting area into a plurality of bins, each having a shape configured to tessellate the plotting area in response to determining that the requested chart will be unsuitable for display; assigning each data point to one of the plurality of bins based on a position of each data point within the plotting area of the requested chart; and generating a modified chart including the plotting area of the requested chart including the plurality of bins each configured to indicate a number of data points are assigned to the particular bin.

Binning to prevent overplotting for data visualization

Various embodiments of systems and methods for extrapolating tabular structure to facilitate manipulation of elements in the freeform document are described herein. The freeform document includes an unstructured canvas providing users the ability to place one or more elements in the canvas. A primary column is determined by the selection of at least one element in the freeform document. Further, one or more secondary columns in the freeform document corresponding to the primary column are determined. A tabular structure in the freeform document is extrapolated based on the determined primary column and the one or more secondary columns to facilitate manipulation of elements in the freeform document, such as reordering, resizing and deleting the one or more elements, and inserting one or more new elements in the freeform document.
