A method and system for synchronizing variations in components or subsystems in an image printing system is provided. The method includes identifying a plurality of image quality defects printed by the image printing system by a controller, said image quality defects each occurring with an associated frequency and each being associated with a component or subsystem of the image printing system; determining a phase difference of the image quality defects by the controller; and adjusting operation of each component or subsystem associated with the image quality defects, such that image quality defects are in phase.

Synchronization of variation within components to reduce perceptible image quality defects

A method of automatically monitoring and controlling print quality in digital printing with a first and second scanner capturing an image from different locations in the printing engine. In an exemplary embodiment, a first scanner captures an image from a surface internal to the print engine while an external scanner captures an image from a printed sheet. If the external print image quality is acceptable, the internally captured image is saved as a reference. The system periodically compares internally captured images with the saved reference and provides automatic image correction if the variation from the reference is within a correctable range. If the image variation is not within a correctable range, the system runs a new test print and creates a new reference image.

Method of automatically controlling print quality in digital printing

A printing system capable of binding a modified image data to an individual print engine in a multiple print engine system. The system includes an image processor such as a digital front end, a set of transformations, and a configuration of printers. The system can also include a scanner that scans a test image so that this image binding process can be repeated. Furthermore, the transformation binding can also take place in real time.

Hybrid printing system

A system that determines an amount of toner mass present on a toner application surface, and comprises a specular reflection sensor, a diffuse reflection sensor, an output combination module, and a mass determination module. The specular reflection sensor receives electromagnetic radiation that has been specularly reflected by the toner application surface, and generates a specular reflection output representative of the received electromagnetic radiation. The diffuse reflection sensor receives electromagnetic radiation that has been diffusely reflected by the toner application surface, and generates a diffuse reflection output representative of the received electromagnetic radiation. The output combination module creates a combined output by combining the specular reflection output and the diffuse reflection output with the purpose of reducing a noise source common to both specular and diffuse outputs to improve the signal to noise ratio. The mass determination module determines an amount of toner mass present on the toner application surface based on the combined output.

In a multi-color imaging apparatus utilizing a recharge step between two image creation steps for recharging a charge retentive surface to a predetermined potential pursuant to forming the second of the two images, a first corona generating device recharges the charge retentive surface with a direct current to a higher absolute potential than a predetermined potential, a second corona generating device recharges the charge retentive surface with a direct current to a lower absolute potential than the predetermined potential, and then a third corona generating device recharges the surface, also with a direct current, to the predetermined potential. An electrical charge associated with the first image is prevented from reversing its original polarity after being recharged by the third corona generating device, thereby preventing the occurrence of under color splatter of the toner image.

A three roll fuser system for a xerographic machine includes a reversibly drivable central pressure roll, a first fuser roll located adjacent the central pressure roll forming a first fuser nip with the central roll, and a second fuser roll located adjacent the central pressure roll on a substantially opposite side of the central pressure roll as the first fuser roll forming a second fuser nip with the central roll. Copy sheets having an unfused image on a side thereof are transported from an inlet through one of the first and second nips to fuse the image on the copy sheet and then transported to an outlet. The three roll fuser system is capable of selectively fusing either side of a copy sheet without requiring extra sheet inverting devices. In a preferred embodiment, the fuser rolls have differing physical properties and can be operated under different operating conditions such as fuser temperature and speed.

A module adapted to be mounted removably in a printing machine. The module has a photoconductive belt entrained about a plurality of rollers mounted on a frame. One of the rollers is movable between a non-operative position, in which the space between the rollers is reduced, and an operative position, in which the space between the rollers is increased. A charging station and a cleaning station are mounted on the frame of the module adjacent the photoconductive belt. When one of the rollers is in the non-operative position, a cover covers at least the photoconductive belt. The cover has an insert about which a portion of the photoconductive is wrapped. The insert supports the photoconductive belt in a non-tensioned condition external to the printing machine.
