The disclosure relates to a composition for use in tires. The rubber composition comprises a blend of a rubber component and based on 100 parts by weight (phr) of the rubber component, from 50 to 200 phr of a filler, from 0 to 25 phr of a plasticizer, and from 5 to 90 phr dimeric decarboxylated rosin (DDCR). The DDCR resin comprises 50 to 100 wt. % of polycyclic hydrocarbon compounds having one or more aliphatic, unsaturated, or aromatic groups, and 34-80 carbon atoms, with a molecular weight Mof 250-900 Da, a polydispersity index of 1.0-1.35, and an oxygen to carbon ratio of <5%.

Tire composition and method for making thereof

Disclosed are compositions which include an ethylene polymer derived from at least one polar monomer with one or more ester groups, and a rosin ester. The rosin ester can have a low hydroxyl number (e.g., a hydroxyl number seven or less), a low acid number (e.g., an acid number of ten or less), a relatively low PAN number (e.g., a PAN number less than twenty-five), a relatively high third moment or third power average molecular weight (Mz), (e.g., an Mz value in between 2500 and 12000 g/mol), a low sulfur content (e.g., a sulfur content lower than 600 ppm prior to antioxidant addition) or combinations thereof. The compositions can exhibit a high heat stress resistance (e.g., a heat stress pass temperature value higher than 52&#xb0; C. or in between 48&#xb0; C. and 60&#xb0; C.) and/or improved viscosity stability and/or color stability upon thermal aging and/or improved compatibility.

Compositions containing rosin esters

The disclosure relates to tire tread compositions and methods for making. The compositions include a rubber, a rosin ester resin and at least one filler. The rosin ester resin is characterized as having a PAN number of less than 25, an acid number less than 20, a hydroxyl number of less than 30, a combined acid number and hydroxyl value of less than 50. The tire tread composition has a wet grip resistance to rolling resistance indicator ratio ((tan &#x3b4; at 0&#xb0; C.)/tan &#x3b4; at 60&#xb0; C.) higher than a tire tread composition containing a comparable amount of a rosin ester having a combined acid number and hydroxyl value of more than 50.

Disclosed are compositions comprising dimeric decarboxylated rosins (DDCRs), methods for making them, and applications thereof. DDCR of purity from 50-100 wt. % is obtained by decarboxylating a dimeric rosin acid or by dimerizing a decarboxylated rosin, in the presence of a catalyst, followed by one or more purification steps separation on differences in boiling point. The isolated DDCR fractions display unexpectedly high T/Mratios, softening points and viscosities, and low polydispersities. The DDCR product comprises 50 to 100 wt. % of polycyclic hydrocarbon compounds having one or more aliphatic, unsaturated or aromatic groups, and 34-80 carbon atoms, with a molecular weight Mof 250-900 Da, and an oxygen to carbon ratio of &#x3c;5%. The DDCR product has at least 50%, and up to 100% as dimeric species, with the remainder being trimeric and larger polymeric species.

Biorenewable hydrocarbon compositions and their uses

The disclosure relates to a light color or a low color rosin or a rosin ester composition. The rosin ester comprises a reaction product of one or more rosins, one or more polyhydric alcohols, and optionally one or more monocarboxylic acids, and optionally one or more polycarboxylic acids having from 2 to 54 carbon atoms; from 0 ppm to 200 ppm of a co-catalyst, and optionally, a disproportionation catalyst, an esterification catalyst, or combinations thereof. The co-catalyst has a triplet formation quantum yield (&#x3d5;) of greater than 0.5 and a triplet lifetime (&#x3c4;) of greater than 0.5 microseconds. Methods to prepare the rosin ester compositions and uses of the compositions are also disclosed.

Light color rosin ester compositions and methods of making same

A three-step method to prepare a light-colored rosin ester is disclosed wherein at least in one of the steps (a) and (c) a co-catalyst is applied and wherein at least in one of the steps (a) and (c) a disproportionation catalyst is applied. In the second step, a distilled rosin is obtained which is esterified with a polyol into a light-colored rosin ester. In one embodiment, the co-catalyst has a triplet formation quantum yield (&#x3d5;) of greater than 0.5 and a triplet lifetime (&#x3c4;) of greater than 0.5 microseconds. In another embodiment, the co-catalyst is selected from acridone, anthrone, 9-fluorenone, thioxanthone, xanthone, derivatives and combinations thereof.

Light-colored rosin and rosin ester compositions

Compositions containing rosin esters and ethylene polymers

A method to reduce the aldehyde content of a pine chemical composition is disclosed. The pine chemical composition is selected from gum turpentine, gum rosin, CST BLS, CTO, depitched CTO, DTO, TOH, TOR, TOP, TOFA, fractionated TOFA, TOFA dimer, TOFA trimer, TOFA monomer, isostearic acid, stearic acid, and ester- and amide derivatives thereof. The pine chemical composition is treated with an aldehyde scavenger such as anthranilamide at a temperature between 20&#xb0; C. to 300&#xb0; C., for 1 minute to 5 hours.

Method of purifying pine chemical compositions from aldehydes

A light color or a low color rosin or a rosin ester composition is disclosed. Significant color improvement can be obtained for a low color rosin, or a rosin ester by using a co-catalyst. In one embodiment, the co-catalyst has a triplet formation quantum yield (&#x3d5;) of greater than 0.5 and a triplet lifetime (&#x3c4;) of greater than 0.5 microseconds In another embodiment, the co-catalyst is selected from acridone, anthrone, 9-fluorenone, thioxanthone, xanthone, derivatives and combinations thereof.

Light rosin ester compositions and methods of making same

An oligoester composition is disclosed, which is a reaction product of a reactant mixture comprising one or more rosins selected from the group consisting of tall oil rosin and gum rosin; at least 15% by weight of one or more monocarboxylic acids comprising 6-36 carbon atoms; and one or more polyhydric alcohols comprising 2-36 carbon atoms, wherein each hydroxyl group of the polyhydric alcohol is separated from the other hydroxyl groups by at least 2 carbon atoms. A method for preparing an oligoester composition is also provided. Also disclosed is an oligoester composition which is an esterification reaction product of one or more rosins, one or more monocarboxylic acids, one or more polyhydric alcohols, and optionally one or more polycarboxylic acids. The composition has a weight average molecular weight of from 500 g/mol to 8,000 g/mol and a Tof between &#x2212;80&#xb0; C. and 100&#xb0; C.

Oligoesters and compositions thereof

An Oligoester composition obtained from a reactant mixture comprising one or more rosin; one or more polyhydric alcohol selected from the group of polyhydric alcohols having from 2 to 30 carbon atoms, and from 0.5 wt. % to 15 wt. %, based on the weight of all reactants, of one or more polyfunctional carboxylic acids selected from cycloaliphatic dicarboxylic polyfunctional carboxylic acids, and wherein the one or more polyhydric alcohol is present in the mixture for preparation of the Oligoester an amount of from 5 wt. % to 35 wt. %, based on the weight of all reactants. Oligoester composition has a hydroxyl value of from 7 mg KOH/g to 40 mg KOH/g and suitable for use in road marking, adhesives or tire tread.

Oligoesters compositions and methods of making and using same
