Molybdate-gluconate corrosion inhibitor

A method of rendering an aluminum base metal surface resistant to water staining is provided which comprises providing an aluminum base metal surface and applying a stain resistant coating to the aluminum base metal surface, with the stain resistant coating containing a water soluble molybdate salt and water soluble nitrite compound in an amount sufficient to render the aluminum base metal surface resistant to water staining. An aluminum base metal article of manufacture which is resistant to water staining is also provided.

Corrosion of metal workpieces by water-based synthetic metalworking fluids is inhibited by a small but effective amount of a corrosion inhibitor consisting essentially of a molybdate compound and a compound selected from the group consisting of nitrites, borates, alkanolamines, amine borates, amine salts of unsaturated fatty acids, alkanolamine sarcosinates, alkanolamine phosphates, and alkali, morpholine, and alkanolamine salts of arylsulfonamido carboxylic acids.

Using molybdates to inhibit corrosion in water-based metalworking fluids

A process and a composition for inhibiting corrosion of metal parts in water systems such as in recirculating cooling towers and the like, while additionally suppressing scale formation and inhibiting corrosion of copper and copper-containing alloys which comprises adding and dissolving in the aqueous system, a controlled combination of active constituents in effective amounts comprising as essential constituents, an alkali molybdate salt, a divalent metal cation selected from the group consisting of ZN.sup.++, Mn.sup.++ and Ni.sup.++ ; 1-hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid and the aqueous soluble alkali salts thereof; and an organic agent selected from the group consisting of 2-mercaptobenzothiazole and the alkali salts thereof; 1,2,3-benzotriazole, and tolyltriazole.

Process and composition for inhibiting corrosion of metal parts in water

A corrosion inhibiting molybdate-phosphate pigment and protective coating formulations incorporating said pigment in which the proportions of the molybdate constituent and phosphate constituent are controlled on a pigment volume concentration basis of about 2 to about 3 parts molybdate per part phosphate.

A method for preparing an extended corrosion inhibiting pigment for use in formulating protective coatings for ferrous substrates in which a particulated inert carrier is slurried in an aqueous solution in the presence of molybdic oxide, to which a metal oxide of zinc, calcium, strontium and/or barium is added in a manner to effect a deposition of the corresponding metal molybdate on the carrier particles, whereafter the coated carrier is separated, dried and calcined at an elevated temperature.
