A suspension clamp is disclosed for clamping a disk drive suspension to an actuator arm. The suspension clamp comprises a housing including a spring operable to bias a latching member, wherein the latching member is rotatable about a pivot. After compressing the spring and rotating the latching member in a first direction, the latching member is operable to clamp the suspension to the actuator arm by decompressing the spring.

A hub for a disk drive assembly including an upper member formed of a first material; and a lower member formed from a second material that supports and reinforces the upper member. The second material has a rigidity greater than the rigidity of the first material. Additionally, a disk drive assembly may be performed by combining a hub, a disk media mounted to the hub and a clamping mechanism attached to the hub and providing a clamping force to the disk media.

Certain example embodiments relate to torsion compensation coils that cooperate with primary coils in voice coil motors of disk drive devices, and methods of making the same. In certain example embodiments, a voice coil motor is provided which may include a single external magnet. A primary coil may be located above the external magnet, with the primary coil being capable of receiving a first current. At least one torsion compensation coil may be connected to the primary coil. The at least one torsion compensation coil may be capable of receiving a second current. The at least one torsion compensation coil may be configured to reduce torsion and/or bending forces introduced by the first current passing through primary coil and/or magnetic field leakage from the external magnet.

The present invention is directed to a push-pin assembly for use with a positioning arm of a disk drive servo writer. The push-pin assembly promotes vibrational damping between the push-pin assembly and the actuator arm. Push-pin assemblies of the invention generally include a contact pin having a shaft and a contact head. The push-pin assembly also includes a body having a contact pin receptacle recessed into an end so that at least a portion of the contact pin shaft can be disposed in the receptacle. The contact head is thus disposed beyond the end of the body which includes the contact pin receptacle. The push-pin assembly additionally includes a vibration damper disposed between at least a portion of the contact pin shaft and the body.

A test jig for probing single or double sided printed circuit boards ('PCB') containing targets statically retains the PCB in stable registration against a nest plate statically affixed to a main frame. A top frame with hinged cover, and a bottom frame are disposed above and below the main frame. Statically attached to the top cover is a top bed of nails and a clamp plate with through holes corresponding to targets on the PCB upperside. The bottom frame has statically attached thereto a bottom bed of nails whose probes can protrude through nest plate openings corresponding to targets on the PCB underside. The PCB is held statically and in registered alignment with the nest plate and during jig actuation, the top and bottom frames are moved vertically toward the PCB. Parallel aligned movement of these frames during actuation is ensured by mating alignment of main frame protruding guide rods and matching bushings affixed to the top and bottom frames. Registration between the top bed of nails, the nest plate and the bottom bed of nails is achieved by providing master tooling holes in these components (as well as the clamp plate). During setup, master tooling rods are passed through these holes, and the respective components are statically attached to the relevant frame. Because parallel movement of the top and bottom bed of nails relative to the statically retained PCB occurs, waffling, sideloading and test probe damage are minimized, and the test probes make reliable contact with the intended PCB target.
