A method and system for automatically consolidating images and generating associated predictions is provided. The method includes periodically monitoring email addresses for emails stored on an email server and subsequently locating an email comprising an image automatically captured from a remotely located video retrieval device locally storing the image. The image is automatically downloaded and extracted for the email. A date and time associated with the image is validated and the image is stored within a server. Metadata associated with the image is updated and the updated metadata is associated with external attributes associated with a location of the remotely located video retrieval device.

An apparatus and a method for adjusting the total flow area of a drilling bit concurrently with drilling which includes a bit having a plurality of nozzles, each nozzle having a flow area and the bit having a total flow area, with at least one nozzle which is initially open and having a first flow area and at least one other nozzle which is initially closed and having a second flow area including a closure means for maintaining the nozzle in an initially closed state below a pre-selected differential pressure across the bit.

Method and apparatus for converting tube waves into body waves downhole for seismic exploration are disclosed, comprising a rotary valve tube wave source for producing swept frequency tube waves that are injected into a tubing or wellbore. The tube waves are converted to body waves by an elongate tube wave converter located at a selected position downhole. The tube wave converter comprises an elongate body that preferably substantially fills the wellbore or tubing and has a preferred shape in order to convert efficiently the tube waves to body waves at the selected position downhole.

Method and apparatus for converting tube waves to body waves for seismic

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for detecting excessive wear of a rotatable bit used in drilling. In particular, the apparatus can detect loss of gauge or bearing failure in a bit. The method is accomplished by connecting a restricting means in the drill bit that can be manipulated to reduce the flow of drilling fluid through at least one port in the drill bit. A wire is connected between a sensor which senses wear and the restriction means to cause the restriction means to reduce the flow of drilling fluid and thereby signal the surface by the reduced flow as an indication of wear.

The invention relates to a self-cleaning, self-aligning, downhole make and break mechanical and electrical latch subassembly used in conjunction with logging vertical and deviated boreholes. The latch subassembly uses a pair of rings to self-align the male probe into the female receiver. A debris deflector surface and specially sized debris exit ports are provided to allow the mating of the parts without interference from extraneous downhole debris.

The present invention is a method for improved mud pulse telemetry. Mud pulse signals generated by a downhole mud pulser are detected at the surface by monitoring mud flow rate. Mud flow rate can be monitored by use of a flow meter placed downstream from the surge suppressor.

A cable connector is provided which is particularly suitable for connecting tensioned armored cable sections used in wireline measurement while drilling operations or well logging operations. The cable connector comprises a pair of field latchable housings each attached to the braided outer covering of a cable, so that cable tension is transferred to the housings. The electrical connection between the inner flexible conductor wires of the armored cables is sealed from the environment within the housing by an elastomeric boot, with the boot being loosely positioned within the housing chamber by the flexible conductor wires. The housing need not isolate the electrical connection from the drilling fluids within the drill string, and the simplicity of the cable connector enhances both reliability and drill site assembly and repair.

Cable connector for use in downhole drilling and logging operations

A method is disclosed for installing and retaining a conductor between a surface terminal and a subsurface location in a drill string used to drill a well. One end of the conductor is lowered into the drill string and is anchored to the drill string of a subsurface location. The upper end of the conductor is taken in from the surface until the conductor is tensioned to a selected amount. The upper end of the conductor is then connected to the surface terminal. As each drill pipe section is added to the drill string to advance the depth of the well, the tension of the conductor is controlled to reduce fatigue failure of the conductor. In one embodiment of the invention, the tension of the conductor is controlled by connecting a conductor section of a selected length between the surface terminal and the upper end of the conductor.
