A status of an isolation barrier can be determined by comparing data collected by a sensor below the isolation barrier to data collected by a sensor above the isolation barrier. A sensor assembly can be coupled to an isolation barrier assembly downhole from the isolation barrier assembly for collecting data related to a characteristic of the wellbore. The sensor assembly can transmit the data collected to a tool positioned up-hole from the isolation barrier. The tool can transmit the data to a surface of the wellbore. The sensor assembly can be powered by a battery pack or via a connection to a downhole tool that supplies the power to the sensor assembly. The downhole tool that receives the data from the sensor assembly (and optionally provides power to the sensor assembly) can be inserted and removed from the wellbore over the lifetime of the well.

Downhole barrier and isolation monitoring system

A bridge plug includes a splayable assembly. The splayable assembly includes an upper annulus with upper extensions, a lower annulus with lower extensions opposing the upper annulus along an axis extending through the upper annulus and the lower annulus, and a linkage connecting the lower annulus to the upper annulus. The linkage has an upper link pivotably connected to a lower link, the upper link pivotably connected between circumferentially adjacent upper extensions and the lower link pivotably connected between circumferentially adjacent lower extensions. The elastic barrier sleeve extends circumferentially about the splayable assembly such that movement of the lower annulus towards the upper annulus expands the elastic barrier sleeve to form a barrier within a wellbore. Bridge plug arrangements and methods of emplacing bridge plugs in wellbores are also described.

Techniques for plugging at least one zone of a hydrocarbon well are disclosed herein. The techniques include methods for deploying a wellbore dart configured for plugging the at least one zone of the hydrocarbon well, receiving, by a first node, location information indicating a first location of the wellbore dart, receiving, by a second node, location information indicating a second location of the wellbore dart, and detecting, an arrival of the wellbore dart at an intended location for the dart to plug the zone of the hydrocarbon well. In some aspects, the method further includes sending a command to a firing module of the wellbore dart, the command effective to cause the wellbore dart to plug the zone of the hydrocarbon well. Systems and computer-readable media are also provided.

Automated isolation system

A ferromagnetic fluid can be used to provide a temporary barrier in a wellbore. A magnetic sub can generate an electromagnetic field within the wellbore. The ferromagnetic fluid is retained at a desired location within the wellbore by the electromagnetic field. Ferromagnetic particles in the fluid can clump together or settle to form the temporary barrier. A zonal isolation fluid such as a metallic fluid, a cement composition, or a curable resin composition can be introduced on top of the temporary barrier. The zonal isolation fluid can solidify to form a permanent or semi-permanent barrier to provide zonal isolation of different zones of the subterranean formation.

Included are bridge plugs and methods and systems for the use and deployment of the bridge plugs. An example bridge plug comprises a first sealing element, a second sealing element, and a spacer; wherein the spacer is disposed between the first sealing element and the second sealing element; wherein the first sealing element and the second sealing element are not adjacent to one another.

A wellbore assembly for use downhole in a wellbore may include a casing string comprising a mandrel. The mandrel may include a side pocket in an inner region of the mandrel. A downhole device may be positioned within the side pocket of the mandrel. The downhole device may include an electronics package, a power source, and a transmitter for transmitting data from the downhole device via a wireless communications link to a downhole tool for transmitting the data to a surface of the wellbore for monitoring a downhole environment of the wellbore.

Accessible wellbore devices

A setting tool and bridge plug that are run-in-hole on wireline through a core bit while drill rods are in place can be used to plug a borehole. A setting tool can be sized to have a same or smaller diameter as a drill rod. A bridge plug can have a run-in configuration of a diameter that is smaller than an inner diameter of a core bit. The bridge plug can have a set configuration that can respond to the setting tool pulling uphole. The bridge plug can be positioned below a drill bit of the drill rod in the set configuration, and the diameter of the bridge plug in the set configuration can be greater than the diameter of the drill rod.

This disclosure relates generally to pulling tools and, more particularly, to incorporating a bailer feature in pulling tools. A pulling tool may be provided that includes a housing. The pulling tool may further include a tool engagement assembly securing in the housing with a distal end of the tool engagement assembly extending from the housing for engagement with a well tool. The pulling tool may further include a bailer chamber formed in the tool engagement assembly and in fluid communication with an exterior of the pulling tool through an opening in the distal end of the tool engagement assembly. The pulling tool may further include a valve positioned in the opening of the tool engagement assembly.

An anchor for a linear actuator includes a body, a mandrel with at least two slip-receiving portions, and one or more slips. The body can be coupled to the linear actuator and the mandrel can be coupled to the power rod of the linear actuator. The linear actuator can power on and cause the power rod to move in an uphole direction toward the linear actuator. Moving the power rod can cause the mandrel to move in an uphole direction. The slip can respond to the mandrel moving in an uphole direction by expanding outward. The mandrel can continue to move in the uphole direction until the slip is received at a second slip-receiving portion.

A downhole cleanout tool includes a tool housing have a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet, and a filter between the inlet and the outlet. The tool includes a pump that is fluidly coupled to at least the fluid inlet to motivate fluid across the filter. The tool also includes a rotatable housing having a nozzle that is fluidly coupled to the pump outlet. The rotatable housing may rotate about a longitudinal axis of the rotatable housing, and the filter and pump may be disposed within the rotatable housing. Each nozzle may include a nozzle outlet oriented at an angle (a) from a radial axis extending from the longitudinal axis of the rotatable housing to a location where the nozzle outlet intersects the periphery of the rotatable housing such that motivation of fluid through the nozzle results in rotation of the rotatable housing.

Disclosed embodiments include a retrievable bridge plug assembly. The retrievable bridge plug assembly includes a sealing element that is elastically deformable to expand radially outward when the sealing element experiences axial compression and at least one anti-extrusion device positioned downhole from the sealing element. The at least one anti-extrusion device includes a shoulder that in operation maintains contact with the sealing element. Also included in the at least one anti-extrusion device is a plurality of anti-extrusion petals positioned downhole from the shoulder that expand radially outward from the anti-extrusion device. Additionally, the at least one anti-extrusion device includes an expandable sleeve surrounding the plurality of anti-extrusion petals that covers extrusion gaps of the plurality of anti-extrusion petals when the plurality of anti-extrusion petals expand radially outward from the anti-extrusion device.

Assemblies and methods are provided for retrieving a sealing assembly from within a tubing string positioned downhole in a wellbore. The sealing assembly may include a plug that may include a non-elastomeric material at least partially surrounding an elastomeric material. The sealing assembly may be run downhole in the wellbore with the plug at an original diameter. The sealing assembly may be set such that the plug is expanded to a set diameter. The retrieval tool may be coupled to the sealing assembly and may be extended in a first direction. The extension of the retrieval tool may lengthen the sealing assembly. The lengthening of the sealing assembly may extend the length of the plug and may thereby reduce the diameter of the plug. In some aspects, the retrieval tool may reduce the diameter of the plug back to the original diameter.

A bridge plug for a well includes an actuator member that moves from a first position such that the bridge plug is in a retracted position and a second position such that the bridge plug is in a deployed position. The bridge plug includes a slip section comprising one or more slips that grip a surface radially outward of the bridge plug in the deployed position and a petal section positioned downward of and adjacent to the slip section, the petal section comprising a plurality of petals that fan radially outward from the bridge plug in the deployed position to catch a slurry. The bridge plug also includes a centralizer section positioned downward of and adjacent to the pedal section, the centralizer section having a plurality of centralizers that ramp outwardly in an upward direction in the deployed position for centralizing the bridge plug.

A modular, mechanical percussive hammer assembly may be used with drill strings, wireline cable, and coiled tubing. Rotation of a splined driveshaft by downhole electric, hydraulic or mud motor rotates a downwardly-biased hammer and drill body rotatively captured within a upwardly-biased stationary anvil. A bit is carried by the drill body. The hammer contacts and rotates along a cammed control surface of the anvil as the driveshaft is rotated. Interaction between the cammed control surface and the hammer operated to create an axial impact force that is transmitted to the drill body and drill bit.
