A method and apparatus for mitigating a phase anomaly in an analogue-to-digital converter (ADC) output signal is disclosed. A plurality of codewords output by the ADC are received and information about an estimated level of interference between an output of the ADC and an input of the ADC due to the codeword is obtained for each codeword based on the logic values of bits in the codeword. In-phase (I) and quadrature (Q) corrections are obtained based on the information about the estimated level of interference, and applied to I and Q values obtained from the ADC output signal.

Mitigating a phase anomaly in an analogue-to-digital converter output signal

A system for generating power is described. The system comprises a gas compressor, a reservoir for storing compressed gas and an apparatus adapted to be located within a body of a liquid. The apparatus comprises at least one chamber in fluid communication with the compressed gas reservoir and an output device. In use, a compressed gas is supplied to the/each chamber from the reservoir, the buoyancy of the gas applying an upward force to a portion of the chamber, the upward force moving at least a portion of the chamber from a first position to a second position, the movement of the at least a portion of the chamber adapted to drive the output device to provide a continuous apparatus output. In at least one embodiment of the invention, heat is extracted from the compressed gas for utilization in local heating systems.

Power generation system utilizing buoyant chamber

On receipt of a request for a communication session over a communications network, such as an Internet Protocol communications network, a path for the session is established. In a preferred example the communications network is an MPLS network and the method uses a modified version of the SIP messaging protocol. Bandwidth along a chosen path is reserved and a messaging protocol such as CR-LDP used to establish this reserved path for the communication session. This creates a delay in the time taken to establish a communication session because the process of choosing a path and reserving bandwidth must be completed before the CR-LDP protocol is used. This delay is reduced by using modified SIP Protocol to perform the CR-LDP function too.

Establishing connections across a communications network

In a packet communications network system, a border gateway protocol is employed to route an information packet from a source in a first autonomous system via a first label switched path to a destination in a second autonomous system via first and second border routers at an interface between the first and second autonomous systems. A label stack attached to the packet identifies both a forwarding interface for the packet and a forwarding behaviour at that interface. This provides a mapping from the first label switched path on to a second label switched path to the destination in the second autonomous system. Preferably, the destination router in the second autonomous system returns to the source router in the first autonomous system a two-label stack identifying first and second paths across the first and second autonomous systems respectively.

Routing traffic in a communications network

A label switched path is determined in a communications multi-service network comprising a plurality of nodes interconnected via quality of service capable tunnels to provide a QoS guarantee for a session in which resource availability from the network edge to multiple central stages and resource availability from the multiple central stages to the destination edge are established. A series of quality of service capable tunnels is selected by offering a plurality of candidate central stages to the destination edge and allowing the destination edge to select a complete path across the network. A label stack comprising a set of four labels is attached to a payload to define a selected sequence of tunnels.

Communications network

Label switched paths are installed in a label switched communications packet network. Paths are selected by defining and installing partial routes each having two or more paths such that an end-to-end route across the network can be defined as the concatenation of two partial routes. Signalling to select a path is effected by sending a path message from an end point to a first virtual router, determining a path from the end point to the virtual router, and forwarding an identity of the path to a second virtual router. The second virtual router determines a routing vector across the network, and returns information identifying the routing vector to the first virtual router.

Label switched traffic routing and signaling in a label switched communication packet network

In a label switch communications network, a third level of label is employed in conjunction with a dynamic multiplex constraint-based routed label switched path (CR-LSP) in order to achieve implicit switching at nodes within the network. Implicit switching occurs when a switching function takes place at a node without the need for any control function being required at that node. A three-layer label stack provided at the edge of the network achieves end-to-end connection oriented behaviour with guaranteed Quality of Service. The use of the three-layer label stack concentrates the control of the network to the two edges of the network and a single central switching stage of the network.

A communications multi-service network arrangement for transporting information packets from a user station to a destination comprises a label switched core network constituted by a plurality of abstract nodes interconnected by tunnels. Each abstract node comprises one or more real nodes. An access network provides user access to the core network. A route across the core network comprises a plurality of label switched path sections specified in terms of a sequence of abstract nodes, the route being identified by a label stack identifying a quality of service capable connection from the end station via the access network to the core network and across the core network to a destination.

Internet protocol and MPLS communications networks typically only support uni-directional flows. Several methods for establishing bi-directional communication sessions over internet protocol communications networks that use MPLS connections are described. This is particularly useful for telephony applications using internet protocol communications networks. In a preferred example, the established connection provides a guaranteed level of quality of service.

Establishing bi-directional communication sessions across a communications network

On receipt of a request for a communication session over a communications network, such as an Internet Protocol communications network, a method of establishing a path for this session which provides a guaranteed quality of service is described. In a preferred example the communications network is an MPLS network and the method uses a modified version of the SIP messaging protocol. A number of possible paths for the communication session are identified and ranked according to factors such as traffic levels. Bandwidth along a chosen path is reserved and a messaging protocol such as CR-LDP used to establish this reserved path for the communication session. An advertising mechanism is used to provide entities in the network with information about topology and traffic levels. This enables the ranks to be determined effectively. The communications network has an overlay network of high capacity paths established on it. By arranging for communication sessions to preferably be established using these pre-determined high capacity paths the complexity of the topology information required is reduced.

Establishing connections with a pre-specified quality of service across a communication network

Voice and media services are provided over an IP network incorporating a plurality of nodes and in which connection oriented traffic is transported in tunnels via said nodes. SS signalling is provided between nodes. The voice and media components are multiplexed to form a point to point protocol (PPP) session which is switched end to end across the network under the control of the signalling.
