Semi-conductive or insulating compositions including an ethylene/octane or butene copolymer and at least one additional polymer, such LDPE, are described. The compositions may also include carbon black and other additives. The composition may be used as a semi-conductive layer in such applications as electrical cables.

Vulcanizable copolymer semiconductive shield compositions

A method of treating filler can include the steps of providing the filler, disposing silica within the filler so that a bulk density of the filler is approximately 24 to 26 pounds per cubic feet, forming a silane compound that includes silane and paraffin wax, and combining the silane compound with the filler.

Method of treating and compounding fillers

An improved conductor shielding composition for power cables is disclosed. The composition includes a base polymer, conductive carbon black, polyethylene glycol and a waxy additive. Cable shields prepared from the composition exhibit improved aging performance in accelerated cable life tests (ACLT).

Semiconducting composition

Insulation compositions for electric power cables having a polyolefin base polymer and an additive comprising either low molecular weight wax or polyethylene glycol (PEG) and optionally further comprising one or more hindered amine light stabilizers, amine antioxidants and other antioxidant blends are disclosed. Also disclosed are insulation compositions comprising a Cto Calpha olefin in combination with a polyethylene homopolymer together with, optionally, one or more hindered amine light stabilizer and a liquid cresol antioxidant.

Tree resistant insulation compositions

Novel additive systems for metallocene based filled cable insulation are disclosed. These systems provide excellent protection against thermal degradation, better cure state and reduced dissipation factor after prolonged heat exposure. The additives may contain one or more hindered amine light stabilizers and amine antioxidants.

Insulation compositions containing metallocene polymers

Novel additive systems for lead-free filled cable insulation are disclosed. These systems provide improved electrical and mechanical properties. The base polymer may be metallocene based, non metallocene based or combinations thereof. The additives may contain one or more hindered amine light stabilizers, mercapto compounds, and optionally, amine antioxidants.

Lead-free insulation compositions containing metallocene polymers

Manufactured articles and methods of producing such articles are disclosed where the article has a thermoplastic polymer component and a curable polymer component. The curable polymer may be moisture-curable polymer, or microwave, dielectric or radio frequency curable polymer. The articles may be manufactured by a variety of polymer processing methods including extrusion, co-extrusion, co-molding, injection molding and calendering. A variety of articles and shapes may be made by the method including electric wire and cable, and weatherstripping.

Methods of making compositions comprising thermoplastic and curable polymers and articles made from such methods

An insulation shield material is provided having improved performance without the need for expensive additives, complex polymer formulations, or specially prepared carbon black. The semiconductive composition used to make the strippable semiconductive insulation shield layer in contact with the outer surface of a wire and cable insulation layer has a base polymer having a weight average molecular weight of not more than 200,000, an adhesion modifying additive system having at least two components and a conductive carbon black. Each of the adhesion modifying additive system components is different from the base polymer. The first component of the adhesion modifying additive system contains a hydrocarbon wax or ethylene vinyl acetate wax and the second component of the adhesion modifying additive system contains an amide wax.

Strippable cable shield compositions

A low-voltage electrical power cable that includes of at least one uninsulated ground conductor and at least one insulated power conductor. The ground conductor and the power conductor are covered with an electrically conductive composition such that the power conductor contacts the electrical conductive composition for improving the flow of a fault current to the ground conductor and to trigger a circuit breaker when the low-voltage power cable is damaged by generating the fault current without the presence of a ground check wire.

Fault protected electrical cable

A self-healing cable comprising a conductor and a water-swellable composition surrounding said conductor is disclosed. When the cable is damaged and water ingress reaches the water-swellable composition, the water-swellable composition expands and fills in any void, puncture or crack present, thus sealing the damage in the cable. In one embodiment, the water-swellable composition is formed from an admixture of a substantially non-water-swellable polymer and a water-swellable filler. In another embodiment, the water-swellable composition is formed from a water-swellable polymer.

Self-healing cables

An improved fault protected electric power cable is disclosed. In the improved fault protected electric power cable, there are at least two insulated power conductors and an uninsulated ground conductor wherein the ground conductor and the insulated power conductors are all in electrical contact with a conductive polymer composition. If an electrical fault occurs in one of the power conductors the conductive polymer composition will carry the current to the ground conductor.
