An ink containment system for an inkjet cartridge, for storing ink for printing, comprises a rigid basin member and a rigid moveable plate. A flexible membrane is affixed to a surface of the basin member and to a surface of the plate forming an ink reservoir within the basin member, plate and flexible membrane. A spring-biased mechanism is disposed between the basin member and plate, for biasing the plate apart from the basin member, generating a negative pressure within the ink reservoir and the basin member remaining stationary relative to the movement of the plate. The basin member has a bowl-like configuration and the spring is seated within the reservoir in such a way that when the ink reservoir has collapsed due to depletion of ink, the flexible membrane and moveable plate are substantially flush with surfaces of the basin member.

An inkjet cartridge has an ink containment system for storing ink for printing. The inkjet cartridge includes a printhead having a plurality nozzles in fluid communication with the ink reservoir and an electrical interconnect for providing an electrical communication between the printhead and a printer controller. The electrical interconnect is disposed at an acute angle relative to the printhead.

A structure for permitting connectors to be passed through a support from back to front is herein disclosed. The structure includes a channel formed in the support from a rear surface to a front surface. A connector passed through the channel may be coupled to a terminal disposed on the front surface of the support.

Disclosed herein is a method of printing a document image with a host computer and an associated printer, where the printer has a printhead with a plurality of laterally-spaced dot columns. The method includes rasterizing the document image in the host computer to produce raster-formatted data representing the document image. This data is then segregated into data swaths corresponding to swaths of the printhead, and further segregating into dot-column data blocks corresponding to printhead dot columns. The dot-column data blocks are then sent to the printer in the order in which they will be processed by printhead electronics within the printer. The printer passes the dot-column data blocks to the printhead to control firing of printhead's nozzles.

Method and system for printing rasterized documents

A printer controller employs a microprocessor together with an application-specific-integrated-circuit (ASIC) to manage the operation of the printer. Among its functions, the ASIC manages memory access for the microprocessor. Either fast- or slow-clock microprocessors may be installed in the controller, but the ASIC requires a slow clock. When a fast-clock microprocessor is installed, the ASIC must divide the clock frequency to provide its own (slow) clock. Likewise, the use of a fast-clock microprocessor requires the ASIC to insert memory-cycle WAIT times, whereas a slow-clock microprocessor needs no WAITs. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, provision is made, during initial power-on RESET, to inform the ASIC which clock speed is being used. This information is conveyed by the configuration of the WAIT interconnection between ASIC and microprocessor, thus eliminating the need for a dedicated ASIC pin for this purpose.
