A vehicle seat controller is provided to control a front seat assembly and a rear seat assembly positioned directly behind of the front seat assembly. The vehicle seat controller programmed to receive a first input indicating whether the rear seat assembly is occupied and receive a second input indicating a position of the front seat assembly. The vehicle seat controller is programmed to provide a signal to an actuator to move the front seat assembly forward if the first input indicates the rear seat is occupied and the second input indicates the position exceeds a rearward travel threshold.

Seat adjustment limiter and method of control

A vehicle seat assembly and a method of controlling a vehicle seat assembly are provided. The vehicle seat assembly has a frame, and a seat pan extending from a forward region to a rearward region, with the rearward region of the seat pan rotatably connected to the frame. A torque tube is supported for rotation by the frame and extends transversely across the seat pan. At least one cam is supported by the torque tube for rotation therewith, and the at least one cam extends outwardly from the torque tube to an associated cam surface. The cam surface supports the forward region of the seat pan and is shaped such that the forward region of the seat pan is raised relative to the rearward region in response to rotation of the torque tube.

Vehicle seat assembly with front seat pan height adjustment mechanism

A gear assembly includes motor, a first gear, one or more planet gears, a first ring gear, and/or a second ring gear. The motor may be configured to rotate the first ring gear at a first speed and/or a second speed. The first gear may be configured to rotate the one or more planet gears. The planet gears may be configured to engage the first ring gear and/or rotate the second ring gear. The second speed may be greater than the first speed. Each of the one or more planet gears may include a first portion and/or a second portion. The first portion may include a first radius, and/or the second portion may include a second radius. The first radius may be larger than the second radius.

Gear assembly

A vehicle seating system includes a seat bottom and a seat back pivotably connected to the seat bottom. A first motor may operate to pivot the seat back relative to the seat bottom with a first gearing. A second motor may operate to pivot the seat back relative to the seat bottom with a second gearing. A transmission member may be disposed between the first motor and the second motor such that operation of the first motor drives the first gearing and rotates the elongate transmission member, thereby driving the second gearing.

Vehicle seating system

An actuator assembly having an actuator, a worm gear, a first gear unit, a second gear unit, and a biasing member. The actuator may rotate the worm gear, first gear unit, and second gear unit in first rotational directions while the biasing member may rotate the worm gear, first gear unit, and second gear unit in second rotational directions.

Actuator assembly

An actuator assembly for moving a vehicle seat on a track includes an actuation cable having a first end and a second end, an actuation gear unit having an output gear with a spool feature attached to the first end of the actuation cable, a first biasing member, and an actuator in communication with the actuation gear unit. The output gear rotates about a first axis, the actuation cable partially windable upon the spool feature. Characteristically, the actuator when actuated rotates the actuation gear unit to wind the actuation cable onto the spool feature thereby retracting the actuation cable from a first position to a second position. Advantageously, the first biasing member biases the actuation gear unit to move the actuation cable from the second position to the first position.

Linear power actuator

A foldable vehicle includes a seat base, a seatback connected to the seat base for pivotal movement relative to the seat base from a generally vertical use position to a generally horizontal stow position atop the seat base, wherein the seat base is pivotally connected to the floor such that, when the seatback is moved from its use position to the folded, stow position, the seat base may be moved rearward and downward to thereby provide a lower load floor position. The seat also includes a lock mechanism to engage and lock the seat base in a first position when the seatback is positioned within the defined range of use positions, and unlock the seat base for movement to a second position when the seatback is positioned outside the use range.

Vehicle seat with foldable stow position

A back-drive speed control system for incorporation into an actuated vehicle seating system includes an actuator having a permanent magnet and a coil that can move relative to each other to create a voltage across a first terminal and a second terminal. The actuator is adapted to move a linkage in an actuated vehicle seating system. A biasing member moves one or both of the permanent magnet and the coil such that the first terminal has a positive potential relative to the second terminal. The back-drive speed control system further includes a first diode and a Zener diode in series connected across the first terminal and the second terminal such that the forward current direction of the first diode is oriented in the opposite direction to the forward current direction of the Zener diode.

A seatback drive assembly includes a lower bracket, a seatback pivotally mounted to the lower bracket, and a lock cam pivotally mounted to the seatback. The lock cam holds the seatback in an upright position when the lock cam engages the lower bracket. A biasing spring moves the seatback to a folded position when the lock cam is disengaged from the lower bracket. The seatback drive assembly also includes a gear pivotally mounted to the lower bracket and having a set of gear teeth. A motorized pinion engages the gear and is driven by an electric motor.

A vehicle seat has a seat frame assembly including a seat base frame that may be shifted between a raised position and a lowered position, and a seatback frame pivotally attached to the seat base frame and foldable from a vertical position to a position atop the collapsed base frame. The seat base frame is pivotally connected to the vehicle floor by at least one front pivot leg which is pivotally connected for rotation with respect to both the vehicle floor and the base frame. A motor is mounted in a stationary position on the vehicle floor and connected to provide a relative torque between the seat base frame and one of the at least one pivot legs for powered movement of the seat base frame to and from the use position and the stow position.

Powered stowable vehicle seat and associated seat frame assembly

A seat support system for supporting a seat in a manner that ameliorates or eliminates load applied to a driving mechanism. The system may be configured to support a seat back when the seat back in pivoted upwardly and downwardly relative to a seat bottom. The support system may create a load-bearing link between a non-driven component on the seat back and an anchor.

Multi-load floor smartfold hybrid

A vehicle seat assembly includes a seat back that is pivotally connected to a seat bottom, a lock mechanism that is configured to inhibit the seat back from pivoting when locked and to permit the seat back to pivot when unlocked, and a release and drive mechanism. The release and drive mechanism includes a mounting member, a drive gear that is rotatable with respect to the mounting member and that is connected to the lock mechanism, and a motor that is connected to the drive gear. The drive gear is rotationally limited to a defined angular range. The motor rotates the drive gear through the defined angular range which moves the lock mechanism to an unlocked state and thereafter causes the seat back to pivot.

Vehicle seat having a recliner mechanism

A linear motion actuator is disclosed in which an actuator shaft is held in a ready position by a latching ring. A spring is attached to the actuator shaft to exert a biasing force on the actuator shaft biasing it toward its actuated position. The latching ring receives one end of the actuator shaft and has locking elements that hold the actuator shaft in the ready position. A latching ring is rotated to selectively release the locking element. A shape memory alloy link extends partially around the latching ring and is secured to the latching ring. The link is shortened when current is applied to the link causing the link to rotate and release the locking element.

A remote release actuating systemfor a seat assemblyin a vehicle. Conventionally, the system includes a seatbackthat is removable through an arcuate range. The seatbackis moveable between a design position (tilted upward and rearwardly in which it may support a passenger), and a full fold flat position. Seatback latchessecure the seatbackin the effective position. A seat cushionsupports the seatback. The seat cushionhas a rearward portion that cooperates with the seatback. The rearward portion also releasably engages floor latches. The seat cushionhas a forward portion that is pivotally attached to the vehicle floor. The seat cushionand seatbacktumble forwardly when (a) the seat cushionis disengaged from the floor latches; (b) the seatbacklies in the full forward flat position; and (c) the floor latchesare disengaged. The tumble forward position facilitates occupant ingress and egress in relation to the vehicle and provides access to luggage and storage areas. In operative communication with the seatbackand floor latches, there is provided a release system for releasing these latchesthat is located remotely from the seatbackand the seat cushion. The invention also includes a method for remotely actuating the release system for the seat assembly.

Remote release actuating system for a seat assembly

A safety belt tensioner is provided for pulling a buckle part to tighten a safety belt system about an occupant. The tensioner includes a flexible member or cable having a first loop connected to the buckle part which pulls the buckle part when it is shortened, as by actuation of a power operated device such as a piston-cylinder device. To shorten the piston stroke while achieving the necessary displacement of the buckle part, the flexible member is provided with a second loop connected to the piston about a turning member thereof with one end of an anchored half of the second loop secured to a stationary part of the pretensioner, and the other loop half extending from the cylinder and connected to the portion of the flexible cable member for the buckle part. This provides about a 1:1 ratio between the length of piston travel and downward travel of the buckle part to minimize the piston travel to allow the length of the cylinder to be shorter for providing a more compact pretensioner. In a preferred form, the piston has a rotatable bearing member about which the second loop extends which reduces friction on the cable when the piston is fired.
