An apparatus for forming a parison is described. The apparatus has a mandrel housing. The housing has an axially aligned hollow mandrel channel therein and a side channel substantially transverse to the mandrel channel. A mandrel is also provided. The mandrel has an axially oriented notch in an exterior surface. The notch is in fluid communication with two fluid channels that extend continuously downwardly around the mandrel to meet one another on an opposite side of the mandrel from the notch. When the mandrel is installed within the mandrel channel, a first radial gap and a second radial gap, both between the mandrel and the mandrel housing, are formed.

Apparatus for forming a parison

A plastic closure includes a closure shell having a base wall and a peripheral skirt, and a sealing liner disposed on the base wall of the closure. The sealing liner includes an outer sealing layer of resilient resin secured to the base wall within the skirt, and an inner layer of barrier resin underlying the sealing layer. The base wall and the sealing layer have opposed flat surfaces, one of which has a pocket in which the barrier resin layer is disposed. The sealing layer has a periphery that extends beyond the periphery of the barrier resin layer, so that the sealing layer completely overlies and covers the barrier layer.

Plastic closure with compression molded sealing/barrier liner

A plastic closure that includes a cap having a base with a peripheral skirt defining a cap interior and threads on the skirt for securing the closure to a container. A liner is secured to the interior of the cap, preferably by compression molding in situ. The liner preferably consists essentially of a blend of matrix polymer material, particulate barrier polymer material and compatibilizer material. The heat and pressure of compression forms the particles of barrier polymer material into platelets that are oriented essentially parallel to the plane of the closure base.

Plastic closure with compression molded barrier liner

A plastic closure that includes a cap having a base with a peripheral skirt defining a cap interior and threads on the skirt for securing the closure to a container. A liner is secured to the interior of the cap, preferably by compression molding in situ. The liner consists essentially of a blend of a matrix polymer, a particulate barrier polymer and an compatibilizer. The heat and pressure of compression forms the particles of barrier polymer into platelets that are oriented essentially parallel to the plane of the disk.

A tamper-indicating closure of integrally molded plastic construction that include a base wall having a peripheral skirt with internal threads for engaging external threads on a container finish. A tamper-indicating band is connected to the edge of the skirt by a plurality of circumferentially spaced integral frangible bridges. A stop flange extends from an edge of the band remote from the skirt for engagement with a bead on the container finish. The stop flange has a circumferentially continuous free edge remote from the band disposed in a plane parallel to the base wall. A plurality of circumferentially spaced openings are disposed in the stop flange adjacent to the band for drainage of liquid from between the closure skirt and the container finish. A plurality of circumferentially spaced gussets in the stop flange are at the free edge of the ring, with each gusset being disposed between an adjacent pair of drainage openings. The gussets function during inversion of the stop flange, from an axially outward orientation as molded to an axially inward orientation for use, to absorb compressive stresses on the flange and thereby isolate portions of the flange surrounding the drainage openings from such compressive stresses. A plurality of circumferentially spaced lugs are molded on the inside surface of the closure for opposed abutment with the bead on the finish to help facilitate drainage from between the skirt and finish.

Tamper-indicating closure and method of manufacture

An ink container for an inkjet printing system is described, including an assembly of a simple housing with caps bearing indicia and protective surfaces to enable effective handling, aligning, keying and latching of the ink container. The ink container includes an ink container housing, the housing including an ink reservoir and a fluid outlet in fluid communication with said reservoir. The fluid outlet is for providing ink to the inkjet printhead. The container further includes a separately fabricated first cap attached to an end of the housing, the first cap having a plurality of mechanical features that provide mechanical functions for the ink container. The end of the housing is a leading end relative to a direction of insertion of the ink container into the printing system. The mechanical functions can include positioning the ink container relative to the supply station, a keying function for preventing installation of an ink container in the supply station without a cap providing the keying function. The mechanical features can include a boss for protecting a leading surface of the ink container and the fluid outlet from physical damage. The trailing end of the housing has attached to it a second cap having a latch feature for latching the ink container in the supply station, and an oversized handle that prevents backwards insertion. The housing includes a pressure vessel that surrounds the ink reservoir, and the first cap is secured to the pressure vessel.

High performance ink container with efficient construction

A method of compression molding a closure having a base wall and peripheral skirt with internal threads, a thermoplastic resin blended with metallic particles wherein the particles are added in elliptical or spherical form. The metallic particles are provided in a carrier of resin which is then blended with the resin of the closure and the melt blend is extruded through a nozzle and cut into individual pellets. Each pellet is deposited into the cavity of a mold which is then closed to compression mold a closure.
