A gas-impermeable sealer element () for a detonator or other explosive initiation device includes a non-reactive sleeve () having a channel () formed therein. A reactive material strip () is sealed within the channel for transmission of an explosive's initiation signal through the sealer element (), either alone or in cooperation with transfer charges located at the input and/or output end of the non-reactive sleeve (). The reactive material strip () comprises a reactive metal wire or other substrate () having on one or both sides thereof a layer of reactive material (), either reactive metal foils which react exothermically when ignited, or a deposited fuel-oxidizer reactive material. The reactive materials, upon being energized, react exothermically in the absence of atmospheric oxygen or other extraneous oxidizer and so may be encapsulated, sealed or otherwise isolated from the atmosphere in use.

Sealer elements, detonators containing the same, and methods of making

An apparatus is provided for diverting sound from a direction generally rearward of a user towards the user's ears. The apparatus includes a sound reflector which can be worn by the user directly or connected to a separate mount such as a helmet. A connection between the sound reflector and the helmet may be fixed or adjustable. An adjustable connection may be removable or permanent. When a helmet mount is used, the apparatus can include a splitter positioned between two sound reflectors. The splitter directs sound to each of the two sound reflectors. The addition of buffer pads aid the sound reflectors in deflecting air around the user's ears to reduce wind noise and increase the user's ability to hear sounds originating from the rearward direction.

The beam contains a first wall, a second wall, and a third wall; and a multiplicity of symbols (such as numbers, letters, shapes, colors, and mixtures thereof) appear on the first exterior surface of the first wall. The device contains an apparatus for announcing the name of such symbol whenever pressure is applied to the exterior surface of the beam at a point where the symbol appears thereon.
