One method comprises receiving a hit signal from a device worn by a first player, receiving a position of the device, receiving an orientation of a launch axis of a virtual-projectile launcher, receiving a position of a second player, and outputting a hit assignment on determining, pursuant to receiving the hit signal, that a recognized object and the second player are coincident at an indicated launch of a virtual projectile. Another method comprises receiving an indication of launch of a virtual projectile by a virtual-projectile launcher of a first player, receiving an image aligned to a launch axis of the virtual-projectile launcher, outputting a hit signal to a server on determining, pursuant to receiving the indication of launch, that a recognized object is imaged in a projectile-delivery area of the image, and outputting a position of the device and an orientation of the launch axis to the server.

Virtual-projectile delivery in an expansive environment

Embodiments related to a restricted-use authentication code are disclosed. One disclosed embodiment provides a method of generating a representation of a restricted-use authentication code for detection by another computing device to authenticate the other computing device to a remote service. The method includes receiving authentication information, the authentication information comprising a restricted-use authentication code and generating a representation of the authentication information. The method further includes presenting the representation of the authentication information to a sensor system of the other computing device for authentication.

Restricted-use authentication codes

A method comprises receiving one or more depth images from a depth camera, the depth images indicating a depth of a surface imaged by each pixel of the depth images. The method may further comprise identifying a human subject imaged by the depth images and recognizing within one or more of the depth images a beacon emitted from a control device. A position of the control device may be assessed in three dimensions, and the control device may be associated with the human subject based on a proximity of the control device to the human subject or other parameter of the control device with relation to the human subject.

A control device includes a housing. The control device also includes a wireless communicator interior the housing. The wireless communicator wirelessly sends commands for controlling an electronic device, such as a game console. The control device also includes a reflector positioned to reflect light directed at the housing.

Embodiments are disclosed herein that relate to the use of active tag codes that change as a function of time to incorporate a greater amount of data into the tag code compared to a static tag code of similar configuration. For example, one disclosed embodiment provides a method of presenting an active tag code to a receiving device. The method includes presenting a first portion of the active tag code at a first time, the first portion of the active tag code encoding a first subset of information of a set of information encoded in the active tag code. The method further includes presenting a second portion of the active tag code at a second, later time, the second portion of the active tag code encoding a second subset of information of the set of information encoded in the active tag code.

Techniques are provided for re-orienting a field of view of a depth camera having one or more sensors. The depth camera may have one or more sensors for generating a depth image and may also have an RGB camera. In some embodiments, the field of view is re-oriented based on the depth image. The position of the sensor(s) may be altered to change the field of view automatically based on an analysis of objects in the depth image. The re-orientation process may be repeated until a desired orientation of the sensor is determined. Input from the RGB camera might be used to validate a final orientation of the depth camera, but is not required to during the process of determining new possible orientation of the field of view.

Orienting the position of a sensor

Described is a system and method in which software updates in the form of self-contained, secure entities are applied to an embedded device's non-volatile storage in a failsafe manner. Various types of software updates may be applied, and updates may contain executable code and/or data. Following a reboot, an initial program loader determines an update mode, and if updating, boots to a special update loader. The update loader processes update packages to apply the updates. Kernel partition, system partition and reserve section updates may be updated with entire files or binary difference files, with failure handling mechanisms are provided for each type of update. Updates may be simulated before committing them. Updates may be relocated in memory as appropriate for a device.
