Various embodiments are described herein for methods and systems of regulating incoming voltage supplied from a utility power supply to a load. In one example embodiment, a voltage regulator adapted to be electrically interposed between the utility power supply and the load, each having at least one phase, is provided. The voltage regulator comprises an autotransformer having, for each phase, a series winding and a regulating winding, where the regulating winding has a plurality of taps and the series winding has a load side for connection to the load and a supply side for connection to the utility power supply. The voltage regulator comprises a controller coupled to the autotransformer, where the controller is configured to operate the voltage regulator in a zero voltage reduction mode and an autotransformer mode, and where the controller comprises a zero voltage reduction mode switch connected across a first subset of at least two taps of each regulating winding and a normally closed contactor connected across a second subset of at least two taps of each regulating winding.

System and method for voltage regulation with zero voltage reduction and autotransformer modes

Embodiments relate to a fuel cell including, an ion conducting component, two or more electrode coatings and one or more interconnects. The interconnects include a non-conductive interface region having a first surface and a second surface in which the first surface is in contact with the ion conducting component, an electron conducting component having two surfaces and a length that is parallel to the two surfaces wherein one of the surfaces is disposed adjacent to the second surface of the interface region. The electron conducting component provides an electrically conductive pathway between one of the electrode coatings and an external circuit, said pathway extending along the length of the electron conducting component.

Apparatus and methods for connecting fuel cells to an external circuit

Various embodiments of the present invention provide a fuel cell connection component, including an interconnect or a current collector. The fuel cell connection component includes conductive fibers oriented at an angle of less than about 90&#xb0; to at least one electrode in the fuel cell. The fuel cell connection component provides an electrically conductive pathway from the at least one electrode of the fuel cell to an external circuit or to an electrode of a different fuel cell. Embodiments of the present invention also provide fuel cells that include the fuel cell connection component, including fuel cell layers, and methods of making the same.

A fuel cell system including, among other things, one or more of a fuel cell, a fuel reservoir, a current collecting circuit, a plenum, or a system cover. The fuel reservoir is configured to store fuel, and may include a regulator for controlling an output fuel pressure and a refueling port. A surface of the fuel reservoir may be positioned adjacent a first fuel cell portion. The current collecting circuit is configured to receive and distribute fuel cell power and may be positioned adjacent a second fuel cell portion. The plenum may be formed when the fuel reservoir and the first fuel cell portion are coupled or by one or more flexible fuel cell walls. The system cover allows air into the system and when combined when a fuel pressure in the plenum, may urge contact between the fuel cell and the current collecting circuit.

Portable fuel cell systems and methods therefor

Embodiments of the invention relate to a device for a fluid enclosure. The device includes a sensing device that responds to a change in distance relative to a fluid enclosure. The change in distance is a function of at least one dimension of the fluid enclosure.
