A system and method for providing a medical simulation device that utilizes open software platforms and provides functionality in both software and hardware modules is disclosed. The medical simulation system facilitates plug and play operation with installed hardware and software modules that are automatically recognized by the system for compatibility and the system configures itself according to identification information of the hardware module.

An inline microgravity air trap device includes an elongate air trap chamber, the air trap chamber having a blind end, an opposite air outlet end containing a gas egress opening, a fluid inlet port connecting to a pressurized fluid supply, a fluid outlet port connecting the air trap chamber to a fluid delivery destination, a filter forming a tube having an interior, a first end at the blind end of the air trap chamber and a second end at the gas egress opening, and a structural insert in the interior of the tube, having a first insert end located at the blind end, and a second insert end located the air outlet end, where the chamber is formed to direct fluid from the pressurized fluid supply to accelerate centrifugally around the filter, forcing gas contained in the fluid to pass through the filter into the interior of the tube.

Surgical trauma training simulator system including replaceable trauma module structured to mimic a portion of human anatomy and, in particular, a prosthetic anatomical structure containing a periorbital structure that includes an eye-lid and an eye globe in cooperation with a drive mechanism. The system is structured to provide, in operation, an event-driven surgical gesture recognition-based tracking of the simulation of the surgical procedure by the trainee and, in absence of expert trainer, provide visual feedback comparing the tracked simulation with correct sequence of steps of such procedure.

In one embodiment an autonomous casualty simulator includes a processing module having a scenario progression controller and a physiological modeling system to receive sensor input and to control effectors.
