An LED downlighting apparatus includes a housing with a sidewall having a front facing edge and a back facing edge positioned adjacent to a ceiling when the LED downlighting apparatus is installed in an opening of the ceiling. A depth of the sidewall is less than one inch and a thickness of at least a portion of the sidewall is less than three millimeters. An LED board and a lens are coupled to the housing. The lens is disposed with respect to the LED board such that the lens is illuminated from a back side. One or more mechanical couplers snap fit the apparatus to a junction box installed and positioned above the ceiling such that when the apparatus is snap fit to the junction box through the opening of the ceiling, the housing appears to be surface mounted to the ceiling.

An LED lighting apparatus comprises a housing having at least one sidewall, an LED board, a lens having a back side facing the LED board and a front side opposite to the back side, and a driver module cover. The lens is disposed with respect to the LED board such that the plurality of the LEDs illuminate the back side of the lens. An adapter bracket is employed to couple the LED lighting apparatus to a junction box installed and positioned above the ceiling such that when the apparatus is snapped into the junction box, the driver module cover is at least partially disposed in the junction box.

A thin profile surface mount LED lighting apparatus includes a housing, an LED board including multiple LEDs, and a lens. The lens has a back side facing the LED board and a front side that provides a downward facing surface when the LED lighting apparatus is installed in an opening of a ceiling. The lens is disposed with respect to the LED board such that the LEDs illuminate the back side of the lens. A first spacing of the LEDs causes resulting light from the downward facing surface of the lens to be substantially uniform during operation of the apparatus. In one example, a thin front edge of a sidewall of the housing, forming a perimeter around the lens, is flush with the lens and is appreciably thin (e.g., a thickness of less than three millimeters), and a depth of the sidewall housing is less than one inch.

A thin profile surface mount LED lighting apparatus includes a housing, an LED board including multiple uniformly distributed LEDs, and a lens. The lens has a back side facing the LED board and a front side that provides a downward facing surface when the LED lighting apparatus is installed in an opening of a ceiling. The lens is disposed with respect to the LED board such that the LEDs illuminate the back side of the lens. A first spacing of the LEDs causes resulting light from the downward facing surface of the lens to be substantially uniform during operation of the apparatus. In one example, a thin front edge of a sidewall of the housing, forming a perimeter around the lens, is flush with the lens and is appreciably thin (e.g., a thickness of less than three millimeters), and a depth of the sidewall housing is less than one inch.

An optical assembly includes a first reflector having a reflective surface with a first lateral extent, and a second reflector having a reflective surface with a smaller, second lateral extent. The second reflector is disposed such that the second reflective surface opposes the first reflective surface with a space therebetween. A light emitter couples with the first reflector such that the light emitter emits light along a central axis, away from the first reflector and toward the second reflector. A translucent diffuser substantially spans the space between the first and second reflectors. A majority of the light emitted by the light emitter reflects from the first and second reflectors, and impinges on and passes through the diffuser. A luminaire that includes the optical assembly also includes an outer shell having a form that is analogous to a shape of the diffuser of the optical assembly.

Micro-channel-cooled UV curing systems and components thereof are provided. According to one embodiment, a lamp head module includes an optical macro-reflector, an array of LEDs and a micro-channel cooler assembly. The array is positioned within the reflector and has a high fill factor and a high aspect ratio. The array provides a high irradiance output beam pattern having a peak irradiance of greater than 25 W/cmat a work piece surface at least 1 mm away from an outer surface of a window of the reflector. The micro-channel cooler assembly maintains a substantially isothermal state among p-n junctions of the LEDs at less than or equal to 80&#xb0; Celsius. The micro-channel cooler assembly also provides a common anode substrate for the array. A thermally efficient electrical connection is formed between the array and the common anode substrate by mounting the array to the micro-channel cooler assembly.

The fluid injection apparatus for use with a syringe includes an injector and a pressure jacket assembly associated with the injector. The injector includes a housing defining a central opening and a drive piston extendable through the central opening for imparting motive forces to a syringe plunger disposed within the syringe. The pressure jacket assembly includes a pressure jacket and at least one support arm associated with and extending outward from the housing. A syringe retaining member is attached to the at least one support arm. The syringe-retaining member defines a syringe receiving slot for receiving at least a portion of the syringe. A light source is located on the support arm and faces the pressure jacket for illuminating the syringe.

The present invention provides an optical device comprising one or more heat pipes with a desired level of thermal coupling with the light-emitting elements which are positioned along a periphery of the evaporator surface portion of the heat pipe in such a way that they are thermally coupled to the heat pipe. In one embodiment, the heat pipe of the present invention can be readily integrated with optical elements such as reflectors or collimators.

The fluid injection apparatus for use with a syringe includes an injector and a pressure jacket assembly associated with the injector. The injector includes a housing defining a central opening and a drive piston extendable through the central opening for imparting motive forces to a syringe plunger disposed within the syringe. The pressure jacket assembly includes a pressure jacket and at least one support arm associated with and extending outward from the housing. A syringe retaining member is attached to the at least one support arm. The syringe-retaining member defines a syringe receiving slot for receiving at least a portion of the syringe. A light source is located on the support arm and faces the pressure jacket for illuminating the syringe. The syringe includes an alignment flange defining a bulged air bubble viewing window (see A). The alignment flange is used to properly orient the syringe in the pressure jacket.

A fascia wash luminaire has a housing, a lamp socket and a refractor lens. The lamp socket mounts within the housing and is designed to hold a lamp in place within the housing. The refractor lens is trough shaped and is also held by the housing positioned under the light generation region for focusing the light from the light generation region to the fascia more broadly beneath the luminaire and more narrowly to the sides of the luminaire. The lens is shaped such that the distance between the lens and light generation region is smaller directly under the light generation region than it is on either side of the light generation region. The luminaire may also have a reflector for boosting the light directed downward and diagonal to the luminaire.

A semi-recessed downlight wall wash canopy luminaire includes a plaster frame, a lamp socket, a lamp, a downlight reflector, a wall wash reflector, and a trim piece. The plaster frame mounts behind the canopy or ceiling sheeting for supporting the components of the luminaire in relation to an opening in the sheeting. The lamp socket holds the lamp above the opening. The downlight and wall wash reflectors are positioned in surrounding relation to the lamp. The wall wash reflector has a bottom portion which extends below the plaster frame and the sheeting for reflecting light toward a wall at high angles. A trim piece extends downward from the plaster frame and below the bottom portion of the wall wash reflector providing a finished appearance. The trim piece has a bottom opening and a side window, which may be covered by refractive lenses.

A luminaire capable of providing up-lighting when suspended from above, or mounted from below, or wall lighting when mounted as a sconce, having a longitudinally extended tapered hollow shell body which is open in the direction of intended illumination, a lamp mounting assembly, a fixture mounting assembly, and a louver assembly which is positioned between a lamp mounted in the fixture and the surface to be illuminated. The louver assembly is an integral unit having a supporting member which carries longitudinally spaced light-transmissive louvers which project from the body opening toward the illuminated surface. Each louver is formed of a partial disk which may be arcuate (e.g. semi-circular or semi-elliptical) or polygonal, and may have a beveled peripheral surface.

A frame (10) supports a plurality of illumination modules (12) arranged in a common plane in a spoke-like pattern extending radially outward from a central axis. Each module includes a lamp (24) with a vertical filament (26) mounted in a faceted reflector (22) to direct a beam of light to a planar, dichroic mirror (30). The mirror (30) reflects the visible spectrum portion of the beam of light downward toward the central axis with all of the beams of light intersecting the central axis in a common plane to create an illumination zone of selected diameter. A disk (32) which is light transmissive at least in portions (34) forms a bottom cover for a cover (14). A handle (40) is rotatably mounted to the frame and connected by a mechanical linkage (50) with the reflectors for tipping the angle of the emitted light beams to adjust the diameter of the illumination zone.
