An aircraft engine fire extinguishing system includes a supply housing for containing a fire extinguishing agent. Also included is a line for routing the fire extinguishing agent from the supply housing. A fire suppression blends of CF3I and 2-BTP with mol ratios from 1:5 and 5:1 are capable of passing peak inerting and sub-inerting tests. The CF3I:2-BTP fire suppression blends can also include carbon dioxide of up to 80% of the fire suppression blend to provide additional cooling.

The container also includes a second tube positioned in the compressed gas section configured to expel a regulated amount of compressed gas into the fire suppression system.

A fire suppression system in an aircraft includes a first nozzle within a region to perform discharge of a fire suppression agent in a first direction within a region. The systems also includes a second nozzle within the region to perform discharge of the fire suppression agent in a second direction within the region. The discharge in the first direction by the first nozzle and the discharge in the second direction by the second nozzle generate and maintain a vortex of the fire suppression agent that occupies the region with rotational flow.

A flow control insert includes a main body that is shaped as a cylinder, is hollow, and includes an opening at a first end and at a second end, opposite the first end, along an axial length of the cylinder. An outer surface of the main body includes threading to screw into complementary threading on an inner surface of a pipe configured to flow an agent. The flow control insert also includes a diverter within the main body or extending from the first end of the main body. The diverter controls a mass split of the agent or flow energy of the agent flowing in the pipe.

A fire extinguisher includes a main dome partially surrounding an internal space housing agent. A secondary dome is mounted to the main dome and is inverted with respect to the main dome. The secondary dome can have a radius of curvature that is equal to, greater than, or less than that of the main dome. The discharge outlet can include a discharge outlet configured to discharge laterally relative to an axis of symmetry of the main dome and the secondary dome.
