The present invention describes methods for preparing a pigment particle dispersion. Specifically, a premix composition including pigments, dispersants and a liquid carrier is milled by a solid milling agent to predetermined particle size. The solid milling agent is solubilized in the liquid carrier which eliminates the need for separating the solid milling agent from the dispersion.

The present invention provides a reversible piezochromic system that changes appearance upon application of a mechanical force. The reversible piezochromic system includes a cavity defined by a first substrate and a second substrate. The cavity includes at least a first fluid. The first fluid spreads when a mechanical force is applied to the system. The relaxation time of the first fluid depends upon the internal forces of the system. These internal forces at least include the surface energy differences between the substrates and the fluid or fluids, and the rheological properties of the fluid or fluids.

Disclosed is a composition and process of manufacture of a stir-in form of pigment with increased dispersing and color properties. Pigment is slurried with acetylenic dispersing agents, wet-milled to a particular particle size, and then dried to powder or granulate form. Also disclosed is a process for producing a pigmented paint composition from the stir-in pigment.

Phthalocyanine blue pigments and pigment dispersions for water-borne inks and coatings are described. The pigments are produced by dry milling phthalocyanine blue and a polymeric dispersant, optionally with inorganic fillers and other additives, to obtain a material with improved coloristic, rheological, and stability properties. The resulting activated crude is then processed directly into water-based pigment dispersion with additives and/or surfactants to facilitate conversion to pigmentary form while maintaining the desirable green and clean shade.
