A system and method are provided for updating location information associated with a printer resource stored in a printer resource registry in a network resource access system. Updating the location information for the printer resource may involve obtaining a unique identifier for the printer resource, determining the location of the printer using GPS or other location based services, authenticating access to the printer resource registry, and submitting the location information to the printer resource registry. Systems for updating location information in the resource registry may operate on the printer resource by itself or in conjunction with a mobile device. System may operate autonomously or provide a user interface for a system administrator to update location information.

System and method for updating printer location information field

A system for internet enabled printing is disclosed. The system includes an internet print service that renders electronic documents from internet connected devices into an intermediate format for printing by an internet connected print client. The print client allows a printer connected to the print client to print electronic documents received from internet print service. A user registers with the internet print service to obtain an identifier for their printer that is accessible over the internet. The identifier can include an e-mail address so that electronic documents can be submitted to the registered printer via e-mail.

System for internet enabled printing

A system and method that provides a user interface on a mobile network terminal for operation with a printer resource access system wherein the user interface is modified for releasing a print job from a nearby printer resource. Since printer resources may include any number of print job release mechanism each requiring different authentication information, the user interface must be modified appropriately. The mobile network terminal obtains location information from a location service, such as GPS or an internet based location service, and provides the location information to a punter directory service in a printer resource access system. The printer directory service then consults the database of printer resource information and provides connection and configuration information for printer resource located nearby the mobile network terminal. The mobile network terminal modifies its user interface to accept the appropriate type of authentication and configuration information specified by the printer directory service. The authentication information may then be provided over a secure network connection to the printer resource to release the print job.

System and method for releasing print jobs based on location information

A system and method are provided for routing print requests and managing internal printer resource data on an internal network with global printer resource data stored on an external network. Print requests are received for printer resources and it is determined whether the request may be served with printer resource data stored on the internal network. If the printer resource data is invalid or stale, then printer resource data is requested from the global server and the internal printer resource data is updated. The print request is then routed to the appropriate printer resource based on location information in the printer resource data associated with the requested printer resource. Network client devices may also be configured to connect to a print traffic server when connected to an internal network, and to the global server otherwise.

System and method for managing printer resources on an internal network

A method and corresponding system for coordinating submission of network resource data across a first network to a network resource located on a second network, the second network being coupled to the first network by a firewall such that the second network has a higher level of trust than that of the first network, the method comprising the steps of: receiving and storing in a storage the network resource data submitted by a network terminal coupled to the first network, the network resource data containing a network resource identifier for associating the network resource data with the network resource; receiving and storing in the storage control data associated with the network resource data, the control data for coordinating one or more actions on the network resource data; receiving a first poll message initiated through the firewall by a polling server located on the second network, the first poll message requesting stored network resource data containing the network resource identifier and forwarding the network resource data matching the network resource identifier to the polling server; and receiving a second poll message initiated through the firewall by the polling server, the second poll message requesting stored data matching the control data associated with the network resource data and forwarding the matched control data to the polling server.

A secure network resource access system facilitates network access by network terminals to network resources located behind an enterprise firewall, and comprises a proxy server and a polling server. The proxy server is located logically outside the enterprise firewall for receiving application data from the network terminals. The polling server is located logically behind the enterprise firewall, and is configured to poll the proxy server to initiate transmission of the received application data from the proxy server to the polling server, to receive application data and associated network resource data from the proxy server in response to the poll, and to direct the application data to one of the network resources in accordance with the associated network resource data.

Secure network resource access system

A network resource control system allows network terminals to communicate with network resources, and includes a resource registry, an authorization server and an administration server. The resource registry includes resource records which are associated with the network resources and define at least a user access level for each network resource. The authorization server is in communication with the resource registry and controls network access to the network resources in accordance with the resource records. The administration server is in communication with the resource registry and provides controlled access to the resource records. The administration server receives user access control data from administrators of the network resources for incorporation into the resource records. Depending upon the user access control data received, the authorization server configures the network terminals for communication with the network resources.

Network resource control system

A network resource access system provides network terminals with access to network resources over a network, and includes a resource registry, a driver database, and an authorization server. The resource registry includes resource records associated with the network resources and define at least a resource type for each network resource. The driver database includes resource driver applications for the network resources. The authorization server receives a request from one of the network terminals for communication with one of the network resources, obtains resource configuration data associated with the network resource, and then facilitates communication between the network terminal and the network resource in accordance with a correspondence between the resource configuration data and user configuration data associated with the network terminal.
